As Windows Central approaches its 20th anniversary in 2027, we’re looking back at the stories that have defined our community – covering everything from Microsoft and Xbox to Windows and PCs. These memories remind us of how much we’ve all achieved together.
Many of us fondly remember the Windows Phone era and the excitement surrounding the release of Windows 10 Mobile.

AdDuplex has shared a preview of their October data, showing how the Windows Phone market is changing. This isn’t unexpected, as there haven’t been many new Windows Phone devices released recently while everyone prepares for Windows 10.
Here are some of the highlights from the report.

Windows 10 Mobile now runs on 5.7% of all Windows Phones, a slight increase from 4.7% last month. This growth likely shows the update is becoming more stable and nearing completion.
In the United States, the HTC One is surprisingly more popular than the Lumia 1520, which has now fallen out of the top ten most popular phones. This is notable because the HTC One doesn’t usually get much support from mobile carriers.
In the U.S. the Lumia 635 still the most popular Windows Phone model
AdDuplex recently analyzed Windows Phone prices, categorizing devices as low-end, mid-range, or high-end. The U.S. has the most high-end phones, and India has the fewest, which makes sense given their economic differences. Overall, most Windows Phones worldwide are either low or mid-range, as there aren’t many high-end models available.
I’m really surprised and excited to see that the Lumia 640 has become the fifth most popular Windows Phone in Europe! It’s officially overtaken the Lumia 520, which was a huge favorite for a long time. It’s great to see a newer model doing so well in countries like France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Great Britain.
In India, the Lumia 540 and 640 XL both saw slight increases in popularity, moving up one spot in the rankings. However, the Lumia 535 remains the most popular model with 22.6% of the market, followed by the Lumia 520 at 14.6%.
In Australia, the Lumia 930 remains a strong contender, holding the second-largest market share at 8.8%. The Lumia 530 also performs well at 9.7%, although its share has decreased by 5.6%. The Lumia 640 and 532 are gaining popularity as they take over some of the market share previously held by the Lumia 520.
You can find the data and figures in the slides available in the gallery above, which cover the topics we’ve just discussed.
Currently, the Windows Phone market isn’t seeing much progress. Everything is paused until Microsoft releases Windows 10 Mobile. We don’t anticipate significant changes until 2016 when the Lumia 950, 950 XL, and 550 become available. However, it’s uncertain how successful these new phones will be. Also next year, the Acer Jade Primo is expected to launch, offering a high-end Windows Phone that isn’t a Lumia – something we haven’t seen in a while.
