The recent “Battle Royale” mode in Battlefield, called RedSec, has significantly boosted Battlefield 6’s player base since its release. While the game was already popular with over 300,000 regular players – and often peaking at 400,000 on weekends – RedSec has brought even more activity.
Thanks to REDSEC, the game now has over 500,000 players as of Tuesday afternoon! That’s right, more than half a million people are already enjoying the Battle Royale mode that was surprisingly released just hours ago.
Okay, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise release – everyone pretty much knew it was coming, and DICE even hinted at more details soon. But honestly, despite the lack of major advertising, this new mode is incredibly popular – the player numbers are fantastic and any developer would be thrilled.
Plus, it’s really enjoyable! I’ve already played a few games and had a great time blowing up players with bombs, bullets, and vehicles – from people nearby to those across the parking lot.
The game’s structure is very reminiscent of Warzone, but that’s actually a positive. It’s refreshing to experience a new battle royale that prioritizes fun over being dominated by highly skilled, long-time players.
It’s a little lonely playing, and I wish my partners would talk more. So far, no one has! I’m starting to wonder if I’m just having bad luck, or if people are too surprised to speak when they play with me.
Where will Battlefield 5 REDSEC go from here?

It might seem a little soon to be discussing this, but we’ve been testing the new mode with the Battlefield Labs community for the past few weeks. Dedicated Battlefield and Battle Royale players have really put REDSEC through its paces, helping us refine it into what it is today.
As with every new Battlefield release, changes are inevitable. One particular feature – loadouts – has already sparked debate among players.
Loadouts, made popular by games like Call of Duty: Warzone, are pre-set collections of equipment that players can access during a match. By completing challenges, players can call in these loadouts, which include their preferred weapons and gear.
I’ve already gotten a couple of good weapons from other players – a purple one and a legendary one, actually. Let’s just say my opponents weren’t paying attention. It was a completely even fight, and I definitely didn’t rely on luck at all.
This update will likely introduce a powerful new weapon setup – maybe a strange thermal scope, or a unique combination of SMG, AR, and DMR – giving some players a significant advantage over others who have been depending on luck for good gear. For now, at least you’re guaranteed to get the weapon you want from item drops.

As a tech enthusiast, when I think about where REDSEC is headed, I’m considering both the good *and* the bad. Honestly, my biggest worry is that it could end up like the loadout systems in games like Warzone – where everyone just grabs their pre-set favorite gear, attachments, and extras. That would really take away from the dynamic, adaptable gameplay I think REDSEC has the potential for.
I’d like to see the next Battlefield game, REDSEC, forge its own path instead of simply copying elements from Warzone. It’s time for innovation – we need something fresh and original, not just a familiar formula with a few minor changes.
Once the initial excitement dies down, longtime Battlefield fans will be the most critical judges of Battlefield 6 REDSEC. The game’s future direction will likely be shaped by the feedback – and especially the complaints – of this passionate core group.
Now’s the perfect time to share your thoughts on the game mode. Let’s give DICE helpful feedback so they can make the Battle Royale experience exactly how we want it.
Battlefield REDSEC’s success depends entirely on its players. Whether the game thrives or fails, it all starts with people actually playing it. Because it’s free-to-play, positive feelings from players will only get it so far – it needs a dedicated community to truly survive.
What changes would you make?

So, if you could change anything about the game, what would it be? It’s essentially Battlefield’s version of Warzone, as I mentioned earlier.
The game felt more like an add-on to Call of Duty: Warzone than a complete title, with elements like supply crates and scattered items feeling very similar. It seemed as though the developers at DICE were only familiar with Warzone, and hadn’t played other popular battle royale games like PUBG, Fortnite, or Apex Legends.
I understand the realistic combat feels similar to games like Warzone or PUBG, but I was surprised by how closely it copied them, weren’t you?
I think loadouts should be removed completely. They encourage players to fall into the same repetitive strategies, and ultimately limit variety beyond simply choosing a character class.

Knowing that the highly anticipated ARC Raiders is coming soon, the developers released this game ahead of it. While ARC Raiders is generating a lot of excitement, Escape From Tarkov, also scheduled for release this year, deserves recognition as a major player in the genre.
Battlefield REDSEC doesn’t have much time to prove itself, and it remains to be seen if DICE can succeed. Currently, as more people play the game, we’re also seeing more reviews come in.
I’ve seen one review joking that the game feels like a mistake, like they accidentally downloaded the wrong game. If DICE doesn’t address issues quickly, this new mode could fail before it even gains traction.
