Fans of the popular TV show Scrubs are thrilled to hear the original cast – including Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, Judy Reyes, and John C. McGinley – is reuniting for a new series. While it was known the show was coming back, the premiere date remained a mystery. Now, that date has been announced, though viewers will have to be patient – the show won’t be airing for a little while yet.
As a huge fan of Scrubs, I was so excited to hear ABC finally announced when the reboot is coming! According to Variety, it’ll be hitting screens as part of their midseason lineup in 2026. Mark your calendars for February 25th at 8 PM EST – they’re launching with two episodes back-to-back, which is awesome, though it does feel like a long wait! The good news is, if you miss it live, the premiere episodes will be available on Hulu the very next day.
Another key part of the show’s return is having Bill Lawrence, the original creator, back involved. He’s already hinted at what fans can expect, including how the characters have evolved and what new challenges they’ll face in the medical world.
Lawrence explained to Deadline that the main appeal of revisiting the show lies in two things. First, people are naturally curious about the medical world, especially as it relates to their loved ones – a common element in successful reboots. Second, the original show thrived because it focused on young, idealistic individuals entering medicine as a true calling, avoiding the tired trope of wealthy, detached doctors. Lawrence believes any attempt to revive the show would be a mistake if it didn’t combine these two aspects.
The TV show Scrubs officially finished in 2010 after nine seasons. However, many fans consider the eighth season’s 18th episode, “My Finale,” to be the real ending. This episode marked J.D.’s last day working at Sacred Heart Hospital, though he did make some return appearances during the ninth season, which then focused on a new group of characters.
That last season wasn’t quite what fans hoped for, but there were still characters and ideas a lot of us really enjoyed. The creator, Lawrence, has said those characters and the world they lived in still exist, even if they won’t be the main focus going forward. I’m really hoping we get a full trailer for the Scrubs reboot soon, but for now, let’s all circle February on our calendars!
