The latest episode of The Simpsons featured a welcome return from a beloved guest star, Albert Brooks, who fit perfectly into his new role. Though Season 37 is just beginning, the episodes released so far have offered fresh perspectives on characters fans have known for decades. This demonstrates that there’s still plenty of storytelling potential left, and Albert Brooks – a legendary figure from the show’s history – is helping to unlock it.
Hank Brooks has been a beloved guest star on The Simpsons since its very beginning. He’s played memorable characters like Hank Scorpio in “You Only Move Twice,” Russ Cargill in The Simpsons Movie, and Jacques in “Pin Gal.” Now, he adds Greg from “Men Behaving Manly” to his impressive list, continuing to brilliantly portray characters who highlight the quirks and shortcomings of Springfield’s male residents.
Albert Brooks Returns to The Simpsons for Newest Season 37 Episode

In the latest episode of The Simpsons, Season 37’s “Men Behaving Manly,” the women of Springfield become frustrated with the men and send them to a “fix-it” camp. The camp is led by Greg, a charismatic gender studies professor from New York University (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson). Greg quickly understands the men’s issues and gets a chance to showcase his own engaging personality.
Brooks is known throughout the series for his ability to add charming, often spontaneous scenes that showcase a different side of his characters. A prime example is when his character, Greg, receives a phone call from his mother. Their conversation about money and how she plans to spend it is a delightful moment where Brooks truly shines. The scene concludes with Greg admitting his unusually strong affection for his mother, which is a defining characteristic of Brooks’ performance in the show.
Where Does This Rank Among Albert Brooks’ Biggest Roles?
Dan Castellaneta has played so many different characters on The Simpsons over the years that it’s tough to say if his new character, Greg, will be particularly memorable. While Greg is certainly more noticeable than some of his previous roles, like Dr. Raufbold in “Bull-E” (where he led a group helping bullied kids) or Tad Spangler in “The Heartbroke Kid” (where he ran a weight loss camp for young people), it’s still too early to tell if Greg will really stand out.
Even so, it’s unlikely any new villain will be as memorable as Hank Scorpio. Albert Brooks was fantastic in the episode “You Only Move Twice,” which many fans still consider a highlight of The Simpsons. Still, it’s always a treat to hear Brooks lend his voice to a new episode whenever he appears, and that’s always welcome. What are your thoughts?
