As a new month begins, streaming services are updating their offerings with fresh content. With November—and the holidays—just around the corner, many are switching from spooky themes to more festive movies and shows. Prime Video is doing the same, adding titles like Miracle on 34th Street, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Uncle Buck. However, some popular movies will also be leaving the service soon.
While Prime Video regularly adds new shows and movies, some titles don’t stay forever. This week, subscribers will lose access to all four Jason Bourne films. That includes The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, and The Bourne Legacy. If you want to watch them on Prime Video, you’ll need to do so before Friday night.
The Jason Bourne Trilogy Redefined Action
The movie The Bourne Identity, released in 2002 and starring Matt Damon, felt like a fresh take on the spy thriller. It updated Robert Ludlum’s novel with the anxieties of the early 2000s and a strong mix of action and suspense. While well-received upon release, it truly became important as the start of a major film series. Though Doug Liman directed the first film, Paul Greengrass took over for the sequels, The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007), and really established a new, energetic style of action filmmaking.
Director Paul Greengrass revitalized the action in the Bourne sequels with shaky, handheld camerawork. This technique put audiences right in the middle of the fights, gun battles, and chases, creating a more immersive and intense experience. This style proved highly influential, and its impact can be seen in later action films, including the Daniel Craig James Bond movies.
Despite some criticism of its fast-paced, shaky camera work, the Bourne trilogy is still essential viewing for anyone who enjoys spy movies or action thrillers. The stories, primarily written by Tony Gilroy, expertly combine mystery and action, creating a compelling character study – and the films are even more enjoyable when watched back-to-back.
Where to Stream Jason Bourne Movies After They Leave Prime Video
Right now, it’s unknown where you’ll be able to stream the original Jason Bourne movies and The Bourne Legacy in November. As of today, none of the major streaming services have announced plans to add these films. This means when they’re removed from Prime Video this Friday/Saturday, they won’t be available to stream for free anywhere. You’ll still be able to buy or rent them digitally, but free streaming won’t be an option.
If you’re looking for more Jason Bourne, the 2016 film is now available to stream. While it doesn’t quite live up to the first three movies starring Matt Damon, you can find it on services like Peacock and HBO Max. However, dedicated fans might still prefer the original films.
