One Piece’s success is due to its consistent release schedule and the way it slowly reveals important details about its world and characters. However, both of these defining characteristics are about to change in the coming weeks.
Big changes are coming to both the One Piece anime and manga. The anime is finishing up its Egghead Arc, and the next storyline, the Elbaf Arc, will be released differently than previous arcs. Meanwhile, in the manga, the God Valley flashback – which focuses on the history of Rocks D. Xebec – is nearing its conclusion.
The One Piece Anime is Switching From Weekly to Seasonal For the First Time in Nearly 30 Years
As a huge One Piece fan, I’ve been so used to getting a new episode almost every week in Japan for years – they only really took breaks for major holidays! But things shifted a bit during the series’ run when Toei Animation decided to pause production for a while, supposedly to really focus on making the animation even better. And now, with the Egghead Arc wrapping up, it looks like One Piece is about to have a pretty significant change to how often new episodes come out.
Starting now, the popular anime One Piece will release a new season with only 26 episodes each year. While some fans might be upset about fewer episodes, this change could actually improve the animation quality and the story’s pacing, which have been issues in the past. Before this new schedule begins, the anime will take a break from January to March 2026.
Imu, Gol D. Roger & Monkey D. Garp Are About to End the Era of Rocks D. Xebec
Watching the God Valley flashback unfold has been a real highlight of the entire One Piece manga for me. After so many years of hints and anticipation, we’re finally seeing the full story of what happened at God Valley, and it’s brought together some of the most legendary figures in the series for an incredible battle. A lot of fans, myself included, think this flashback is among the best One Piece has ever offered – some even believe it’s worthy of its own movie adaptation. Though it’s bittersweet to see the flashback coming to a close, the real tragedy lies in witnessing the end of the Rocks D. Xebec era.
For years, Rocks D. Xebec was presented as a terrifying villain, but he’s surprisingly become one of the most admired and honorable pirates in One Piece. He’s strong, brave, charming, and deeply devoted to his crew, quickly gaining a lot of popularity with fans. Within the story, he’s shown as incredibly powerful, even ranking above legends like Gol D. Roger and Whitebeard. The events unfolding in the God Valley flashback really highlight just how influential he was, and now audiences are about to witness his downfall and the end of his era at the hands of One Piece‘s biggest enemy.
The latest chapter of One Piece reveals that Imu used their power, “Domi Reversi,” to transform Xebec into a dangerous monster. This finally triggers the long-awaited battle between Gol D. Roger and Monkey D. Garp, who must now team up to defeat him. Previously, fans believed their alliance was a proactive measure against a global threat, but it’s now clear Imu orchestrated this confrontation, and the fall of Xebec and his crew is what Imu intends to happen.
Some fans are worried about the One Piece anime switching to a seasonal release schedule and the end of the God Valley flashback. However, this could actually allow the upcoming Elbaf Arc in the anime to be even better than the popular Wano Country and Egghead Arcs. Plus, the manga’s Elbaf Arc can benefit from the excitement surrounding the final moments of Xebec as the Straw Hat crew gets ready to face Imu. Sometimes change is positive, and that definitely seems to be true for One Piece right now.
