We enjoy many modern sports games, but we really miss the fun, fast-paced arcade sports games from the past.
Games like NBA Jam, NFL Street, and SSX Tricky used to be incredibly popular – easy to pick up and play whenever you had a few minutes. We don’t see many games like that anymore.
NBA The Run is bringing all of that back.
Coming to PS5 in 2026, this basketball game aims for a classic arcade feel with responsive controls and simple, fun gameplay. It boasts carefully crafted animations for a smooth experience that’s easy to learn and enjoy.

According to creative director Michael Young, every item you acquire feels incredibly exciting, like watching a highlight reel. Young, who previously worked at EA Sports on popular franchises like FIFA Street, shared this on the PlayStation Blog.
The game features both real NBA players and unique, made-up Street Legends, each with their own background. You’ll be able to play on courts globally in quick, fun matches that you can enjoy again and again.
The developers want playing defense to be just as rewarding as playing offense. This means successfully blocking shots will feel as good as making spectacular plays like alley-oops.
Players can expect a smooth online multiplayer experience thanks to the game’s rollback netcode, and it will also support crossplay, letting you play with friends on different platforms.
The core gameplay will feature teams of three players. You can either play as a full team yourself, controlling all three players, or team up with friends to play together.
Matches will have randomised rules, so you’ll need to switch up your strategy on the fly.
Ultimately, NBA The Run is designed to bring people together through exciting and quick-paced competition, creating memorable experiences, according to Young.
Needless to say, wherever arcade sports are involved, we’re always excited.
