Huda Mustafa is taking accountability.
Following a livestream on October 27th where she laughed at a racial slur directed towards fellow Love Island USA contestant Olandria Carthen, the reality star issued an apology.
Huda expressed her strong respect for Olandria and shared that she was deeply upset to learn anyone – especially a child – would think it’s okay to use hurtful language. She believes doing so highlights a lack of understanding about how damaging that kind of word can be.
Huda apologized to Olandria, who finished as the runner-up with Nic Vansteenberghe on the dating show, explaining she didn’t realize the comment was about her former colleague.
She said she was sorry for how she initially reacted. She explained that she was simply surprised and caught off guard, and her response wasn’t meant to be humorous. It was an awkward, nervous reaction that she now realizes wasn’t appropriate.
I want to be clear: I strongly disapprove of anyone using that kind of language, and I urge the person who said it to think carefully about the impact of their words and the hurt they’ve caused.
The 25-year-old, who finished third on Love Island with her former partner, Chris Seeley, ended her statement by promising to donate to the NAACP and encouraging others to do the same. She had previously asked both herself and Louis to make donations that day on her Instagram Stories.
Louis, 24, recently apologized after a comment made during an incident with his girlfriend, Huda, whom he started dating in August. He explained he was completely surprised by what happened.
I sincerely apologize to everyone who was upset by the offensive language used by a caller. As a Black man who has personally experienced racism, it’s deeply hurtful to think my reaction to a disturbing situation might be seen as not caring about the problem. I was upset and my response could have been misinterpreted, but I absolutely condemn the language used.

He stated that the situation was deeply regrettable and did not align with his or Huda’s principles.
For Olandria’s part, she condemned racism, adding that she never entertains it.
She posted on Instagram Stories that language like that is always harmful and never okay—whether said in anger, as a joke, or at any time. She explained that those words cause lasting pain, and ignoring that fact only continues the problem. She added that trying to justify, excuse, or laugh it off is even more damaging.
She stated she wouldn’t allow this situation to distract her from her commitment to helping her community. She’s staying true to herself and using this as a chance to demand accountability and greater awareness. She believes everyone has a responsibility to create a society where speaking out against hate is expected.
The 27-year-old then asked viewers of the stream, and their audiences, to donate to groups that support the Black community.
She expects any apologies will be brief and quickly forgotten, but hopes to use this situation to create real, positive change. She also shared some charities people could donate to.
