MindsEye Mysteriously Removes Free Roam, Brings Back ARCADIA for User-Created Missions

If you’re unfamiliar with the game MindsEye or its developer, Build A Rocket Boy (who faced criticism from the UK Game Workers Union regarding employee treatment), there’s a new update you should know about. It reintroduces ARCADIA, now replacing Play.MindsEye. The mission-building tools, previously called Build.MindsEye, are now Build.ARCADIA for PC players, and the Free Roam mode is no longer available. Honestly, it’s a bit confusing!

ARCADIA, found within the game MindsEye, offers a constantly growing collection of missions, races, puzzles, and challenges. While the original campaign and side missions can still be played without an internet connection, ARCADIA itself functions like a streaming service and always requires a connection. Surprisingly, it even features leaderboards, despite the limited number of players.

You can watch the trailer below to get a feel for what ARCADIA is all about. As for when the free roam mode and its main character, nicknamed “Can’t Drink Dust Guy,” will be back, there’s currently no information available.

From the beginning, MindsEye seems to be following its planned updates, adding new game modes, missions, and multiplayer features. Now, the big question is whether the promised major story expansion, planned for this winter, is still on schedule. And also, if the larger open-world multiplayer game, originally planned for next year, is still in development.

MindsEye is now available on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. In our review of the original game, we scored it a 5 out of 10. We liked how it looked and the tools for creating things, but found most other aspects lacking.
