Berserk’s 7 Most Brutal Moments That Will Never Be Animated

This article about Berserk is being published on October 31st because the anime series is known for its intense violence and supernatural themes, blending action and horror. While the 1996 and 2016 anime series, along with the movies, have been quite violent, certain scenes from the original manga remain too shocking to adapt for animation. The Eclipse arc has been animated multiple times, but some of Kentaro Miura’s darkest creations may never appear in animated form.

As of today, there’s no official word on whether a new anime series for Berserk is in development. The last animated version was Berserk: Memorial Edition, which combined footage from three movies to retell the Golden Age Arc. Although the manga continues with writer Kouji Mori and Studio Gaga following the sad passing of creator Kentaro Miura, these new chapters haven’t been adapted into animation yet. There’s still a lot of Miura’s original work that fans are eager to see animated. Let’s take a look at what could be next.

7.) Everything About Wyald

It’s a sign of just how villainous a character is when they’re left out of multiple anime versions! Wyald played a significant role in the Berserk story after Griffith was saved from torture. He was a major obstacle for Guts and the Band of the Hawk, and even more formidable than many of the Godhand and other Apostles. As the leader of the Black Dog Knights – an army made up of the most dangerous criminals – Wyald committed truly horrific crimes. These were so terrible that the anime adaptations skipped over his story entirely. Fortunately, fans could still encounter him in the video game, Berserk And The Band of The Hawk.

6.) The Lost Children Arc

The Lost Children Arc from Berserk, similar to the Wyald arc, hasn’t been included in either of the anime adaptations so far. It takes place after the Eclipse and before Guts meets characters like Farnese and Serpico. In this arc, Guts battles Rosine, an apostle who specifically targets and kills children. The scenes are disturbing, as the demon turns the bodies of her victims into explosives and throws them at Guts. Guts is covered in blood for much of the fight, becoming so frightening that even the Apostle is scared. While there’s no official explanation for why this storyline wasn’t animated, the extreme violence against children was likely a major factor.

5.) The King of Midland And His Daughter’s Terrible Day

This scene, which happened during the Golden Age Arc but was left out of the Berserk anime adaptations – and with good reason – is particularly disturbing. After Princess Charlotte and Griffith spend the night together, the King of Midland completely loses control and attempts to marry his own daughter – and the situation is far worse than that description suggests. It’s a brutal and uncomfortable scene, devoid of supernatural elements, but it demonstrates just how dark humanity can be even without demonic influence. While it revealed a previously unseen, bleak side of the king, its sheer grotesqueness makes it unlikely to ever be animated.

4.) The Troll Invasion

Trolls are among the most memorable creatures in Berserk. Though they’re simple-minded and much weaker than Apostles or the Godhand, their overwhelming numbers and brutality make them a serious threat. They were featured prominently in the 2016 anime, with Guts and his companions battling their relentless attacks. However, the manga delves deeper into the trolls’ destructive impact, showing the horrific consequences of their raids on small villages. Similar to some of the Midland King’s past deeds, the specifics of what the trolls did are disturbing, and highlight just how dark and grim the Berserk world can be.

3.) Ganishka’s Demon Army

Fans are especially eager to see the battle against Ganishka, the Kushan emperor, animated from Berserk. This villain posed a threat to both Guts and Griffith, and shockingly, forced them to team up. Ganishka built his powerful army by collecting pregnant women and… engaging in something truly horrific and difficult to depict, making it unlikely that part of the story will ever be animated. While we anticipate seeing the fight against Ganishka brought to life eventually, the creation of his army seems too disturbing to ever be shown on screen.

2.) Berserk’s Opening Manga Scene

Okay, so the very first scene in the Berserk manga? It totally blew my mind when I first read it! It even became a bit of a famous meme for a while. Basically, Guts tries to get close to this female Apostle, and… well, he ends up sleeping with her, but she transforms into a demon during that moment. Classic Guts, though – he takes care of the demon super fast! It’s a really intense way to introduce him and the whole world. It’s kind of a shame the anime hasn’t included it – and honestly, I doubt it ever will – because it’s definitely a pretty mature scene.

1.) The Conviction Arc Uncensored

The decision to include the Conviction Arc from Berserk might seem like a slightly easy choice, but it deserves recognition. The 2016 anime adaptation covered this arc, but a lot of the disturbing details involving Mozgus and his torture were left out. While the anime didn’t avoid the storyline completely, it couldn’t show the most graphic scenes, often implying them instead. If Berserk ever revisits these events, it’s likely those scenes would be even more heavily censored.
