ForWoody Harrelson, this case is closed.
The 64-year-old actor explained he doesn’t plan to reprise his role in True Detective with Matthew McConaughey. He believes their first season of the HBO show was a perfect conclusion to their story.
Woody firmly stated he wouldn’t consider a sequel when Dylan Dreyer asked him on Today, October 31st. He explained that he’s happy with how the original turned out and worries another season would ruin its quality.
Dylan reminded everyone that Matthew had expressed interest before, saying he’d participate if Woody and he both liked the idea. Woody just laughed and called Matthew amusing.
Kate Hudson, known for her role in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, isn’t the only one interested in revisiting detective work. The show’s creator, Nic Pizzolatto, revealed back in May that he has a story idea which could bring back Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as their characters, Rust Cohle and Marty Hart, respectively.
Nic Pizzolatto mentioned on the Nothing Left Unsaid podcast in May that he has an idea for another story featuring the characters of Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. He hasn’t written anything yet, but he’s discussed the possibility with the actors and believes they’d be interested in revisiting those roles. Whether or not the project will actually happen remains uncertain.
Even though Woody wasn’t eager to work with Matthew again on the True Detective set, they remain very close friends. Their connection runs so deep that in 2023, they jokingly wondered if they could be brothers after Matthew’s mother, Mary McCabe, mentioned she used to know Woody’s father, the late Charles Harrelson, who was a convicted criminal.
In an April 2023 interview on the Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa podcast, Matthew described the close relationship he shares with Woody as often blurring the lines between their identities. He explained that their families even mix them up – his kids call Woody ‘Uncle Woody,’ and Woody’s kids call him ‘Uncle Matthew.’ Matthew added that people frequently mistake him for Woody in photos, and vice versa.
He went on to share a story from a few years back in Greece. They were all chatting about family and how close everyone was when his mom suddenly said, ‘Woody, I knew your dad.’ Everyone immediately picked up on what she didn’t say – the implication was much more than just a simple statement of past acquaintance; it was a deliberately incomplete sentence with a lot of meaning behind it.

It came out that Matthew’s mother and the man believed to be his father, Jim, had split up briefly nine months before he was born, which Woody found odd. However, just like Woody had said no to revisiting True Detective, Matthew apparently refused to take a DNA test.
Wood explained on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in April 2023 that this situation is particularly difficult for the person involved, saying, “He feels like he’s losing a father.” Wood countered that he’s actually gaining new father figures – a different father and a brother.

Despite the intense and often adversarial relationship between their characters in the hit AMC series Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul actually had a great rapport from the very beginning of filming.
Paul shared with Esquire magazine that he immediately fell for his co-star, describing him as “impossible not to love.” Their connection quickly deepened, with Paul adding that Bryan Cranston became a close friend and mentor early in the show. Cranston is also Ryden Caspian’s godfather, and Paul’s wife is Lauren Paul.
Following the conclusion of Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul partnered again in 2019 to create Dos Hombres, a brand of Mezcal. In an interview with Esquire, Cranston readily acknowledged Paul as the driving force behind the business.
Honestly, he was the mastermind behind this whole thing – it was entirely his idea! He’s a real business whiz, far more than I am. Let’s just say I’m the face of it all – the one you see out front. He’s the brains, and I’m happy to be the public face of our venture.

Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox are often considered the perfect example of co-stars who became best friends. They hit it off immediately when they were cast on the hit show Friends in 1994. Throughout the show’s ten seasons, they famously ate lunch together every day. Aniston is Coco Arquette’s godmother, and Cox supported Aniston through her divorce from Brad Pitt in 2005.
Jennifer Aniston described her friend as incredibly fair, loyal, and loving, emphasizing that being around her feels completely free of criticism or scolding. She shared this in a 2014 interview with More magazine.
I’ve stayed with her many times, and while I don’t want to share too much personal detail, she’s always been a great support to me, through good times and bad.
Courteney Cox and her close friend have been through both good times and bad, and she described their bond to TV Week in 2010, saying, “We simply enjoy each other’s company, we laugh a lot, we’re always together, and it’s wonderful.”

Just call them blood brothers.
After playing the roles of vampire brothers Damon and Stefan for eight seasons, Ian Somerhalder and Paul Wesley decided to stay connected after the show ended. In 2020, they launched Brother’s Bond Bourbon, a liquor brand inspired by the bourbon their characters often drank on screen – and that they themselves enjoyed together off set.
Wesley described their close relationship during their time on The Vampire Diaries as being inseparable, like they were “attached at the hip.” This connection naturally led them to what they called a “2.0” phase of their lives, with Somerhalder confidently predicting they would spend another decade together.
Honestly, watching Paul and Ian together is just… electric! They’re so different, but that’s what makes them amazing. It’s like their characters, Damon and Stefan – those contrasting energies just work, and it’s the same with them as people. They complete each other, and it’s totally captivating!
You know, I’ve always said opposites attract, and that’s definitely true in my relationship! My partner, Ian, is a total glass-half-full kind of guy, while I tend to be a bit more realistic – maybe even a little cautious. But it works! We really complement each other. He’s the dreamer, always thinking big, and I’m the one who gently grounds things when needed. It’s a great balance, honestly.

While many fans rooted for Joey and Dawson or Joey and Pacey, the real romance on Dawson’s Creek was between the actresses who played Rachel and Jen Lindley. Michelle Williams and Katie Holmes became good friends when Holmes joined the show in 2001.
In a 2018 interview with People magazine, Williams remembered someone predicting ‘a chemical reaction’ when she and this woman first met. She said she was thrilled when the woman arrived in Wilmington, and they quickly became very close, leading Williams to fall in love.
And their time working together on the series was formative.
Philipps recalled to Entertainment Weekly that their time together wasn’t about work, but rather relaxing off-set. They’d spend hours talking on the porch, and she specifically remembers enjoying lots of bread – ‘copious amounts,’ she said, recalling endless conversations over basket after basket.
Since Dawson’s Creek finished in 2003, Michelle Williams and Busy Philipps have stayed very close friends. When Williams’ partner, Heath Ledger, tragically died from an accidental overdose in 2008, Philipps was one of the first people to be by her side at her Brooklyn home.
You know, I was telling Busy Philipps not long ago how incredibly grateful I am to have her in my life. I truly believe she’s saved me from ever feeling lonely – she’s just always there. We have this amazing connection where we can share absolutely anything, and honestly, I can’t imagine who I’d be, or what my life would look like, without her. She’s just that important to me.
For years, Philipps was Heath Ledger’s daughter Matilda’s godmother and a frequent date for Williams at award shows, and these experiences always highlighted how much they had both achieved.
Philipps told Elle that having her partner with her during challenging times, and at events like red carpets, is incredibly grounding. They have a tradition of reminding each other just before these events how fortunate they are and to appreciate their life together.

House Stark forever!
Although their characters, Sansa and Arya, didn’t always get along, the actresses Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams became very close friends while filming the HBO series. Turner has said they were “pretty much best friends” right after finishing their first screen test together.
Maisie said she felt the same way about Sophie. In an interview with Rolling Stone, she explained, “I thought Sophie was amazing.” She added that she understands why actors do chemistry reads – when the connection is genuine, it’s incredibly strong. “It was like we were instant best friends,” she said. “They must have seen that years ago, and it really did feel like magic watching us have so much fun together.”
Growing up in the public eye was challenging, but the two stars supported each other through all the difficulties that came with being famous.
Okay, seriously, Maisie and I have this thing. Like, we genuinely look out for each other. She’s totally my protector, and I’m hers, without a doubt. I just know if anything ever happened to me, she would absolutely lose it and defend me fiercely. And honestly? She’s been a lifesaver. She really helped me get through some awful breakups – both with boyfriends and friends. She’s just the best, and I feel so safe knowing she’s got my back.
To remember how close they were, the two actors got tattoos of the date they both found out they’d been cast in Game of Thrones.
Sophie considers Maisie one of her closest friends. She told TopMob News that when she married Joe Jonas in 2019, Maisie was her maid of honor. They’d talked about getting matching tattoos since the first season of Game of Thrones, hoping they’d all make it to the end of the show.

JD and Turk on Scrubs were famously fun to watch, but the actors who played them, Zach Braff and Donald Faison, actually have even more playful and funny conversations in real life than their characters did on the show.
Zach Braff and Donald Faison first connected during a table read for their show, Scrubs, and Faison later described the instant chemistry as feeling similar to when he met his wife. In a 2020 interview, he called Braff his best friend, saying their connection was genuine. After the first season, they decided to live together in New York City, which Faison said solidified their lifelong friendship.
Though the TV show Scrubs finished in 2010, stars Zach Braff and Donald Faison reconnected during the pandemic to create the popular podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends. According to GQ, they now live near each other in Los Angeles, and Faison actually married his wife, Cacee Cobb, at Braff’s house back in 2012, with Braff serving as best man.

Fans love how openly Jenna Fischer and Lee Kirk, who both starred on The Office and were once married, joke about their sometimes-difficult relationship. They even did a funny sketch together at the 2022 Emmy Awards.
Even though their romance fizzled in 2007, Kaling and Novak grew even closer as confidants.
Mindy Kaling shared on The Drew Barrymore Show last year that he’s a fantastic friend and a beloved godfather to both of her children. He has a natural connection with kids, and they adore him. She added that he truly feels like family, and they’ve been close for many years.
Mindy explained that someone who has a long-term friendship – almost two decades – that once included dating, and now doesn’t, might be able to relate to what she’s going through.

Despite their characters often being at odds on the show Veronica Mars, actors Jason Bell and Ryan Hansen became close friends after meeting in 2004.
In a 2021 birthday post for Ryan Hansen, Kristen Bell shared that they’ve been friends since childhood. Though they played rivals on the show Veronica Mars, they quickly became close in real life. They even lived together as roommates and consider themselves like brothers, enjoying each other’s company almost daily.
Hansen is a godfather to Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard’s daughters, and he and his wife, Amy, were at their wedding in 2013. The two families are very close, often vacationing together and forming a ‘bubble’ during the pandemic – Bell affectionately calls them all “super spouses.”
Jameela Jamil shared a heartfelt birthday message for her friend, writing that she loves having him in her life and credits him with helping her become who she is today, both through his friendship and the people he’s introduced her to. She affectionately called him a ‘Marshmallow’.

Jonathan Groff wasn’t the only co-star Lea Michele became close to. She also developed a strong friendship with Chris Colfer when he joined the cast of Glee during its second season, and the two even toured together in 2018.
Michele shared with Billboard that Darren’s impulsive nature encourages her to step outside her comfort zone and has boosted her confidence, even if he’s unaware of it. She’s thankful for his friendship, explaining that they’re both driven individuals, making their collaboration feel natural for both their careers and their bond. She also appreciates how working with him allows her to discover new facets of herself.
Criss and Michele have a playful sibling-like relationship. Criss told The Los Angeles Times that teasing Michele is something he genuinely enjoys, explaining that his affection and admiration for her actually make her a good-natured target for his jokes.
When Michele returned to Broadway in October 2022 with the show Funny Girl, Darren Criss and his wife, Mia, were there to cheer her on.
Michele shared a heartwarming moment online, posting a photo with Darren Criss and his wife, Mia, with the caption: ‘Darren has seen me perform ‘Don’t Rain On My Parade’ so many times! I love you both.’
