Craig Fairbrass talks Cliffhanger behind the scenes

Craig Fairbrass’ leap to blockbusters

Craig Fairbrass is now strongly associated with the Footsoldier films, but he has a long and varied career. Before becoming a central figure in that franchise, he appeared in popular TV shows like ‘London’s Burning’ and the first two seasons of the award-winning ‘Prime Suspect’ with Helen Mirren. He then played a memorable cockney villain alongside John Lithgow in the 1993 blockbuster ‘Cliffhanger’, and he’s sharing exclusive behind-the-scenes stories about the film with us!

What was the story of Cliffhanger…

The movie stars Stallone as Gabe, a mountain rescuer still dealing with the aftermath of a devastating accident. A year later, he’s asked to return to the same mountains to help a group of people who seem stranded. However, Gabe soon discovers they aren’t just lost – they’re actually searching for three boxes containing $100 million, and they need a local guide to help them find it!

Why Stallone’s early 90’s films failed …

Following the failures of his comedies ‘Stop! or My Mom Will Shoot!’ and ‘Oscar,’ ‘Cliffhanger’ marked Sylvester Stallone’s return to action movies. Directed by Renny Harlin, fresh off the success of ‘Die Hard 2,’ the film was a thrilling blockbuster filmed on location in the Alps and featured stunning visuals. One particularly memorable scene even inspired a similar set piece in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’ A fantastic trailer generated a lot of excitement, and the movie was a major hit with audiences.
