Lee Pace recently shared an interesting link between his new action movie, The Running Man, and the popular Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy. He explained that the new project brought back memories of past collaborations, character development, and other connections.
Lee Pace on how The Running Man and Guardians of the Galaxy are similar
Lee Pace and Josh Brolin share a dynamic in the film The Running Man that Pace compares to their charactersâ relationship in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). In The Running Man, Pace plays Evan McCone, a cold-blooded assassin who hunts contestants on a dangerous reality show, while Brolin portrays Dan Killian, the show’s scheming producer.
I’ve now done two movies where I’ve had to run difficult tasks for Josh Brolin,â said Pace to ScreenRant. âIt’s funny because this is the second time we’ve filmed scenes together but never actually met on set. We film at separate times and only see each other at events like premieres.â
Pace drew a comparison between his character, Evan, and Ronan from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explaining that Evan, like Ronan, ultimately serves Josh Brolinâs villainous character in The Running Man. He also highly praised Brolin’s portrayal of Killian, describing him as darkly unpredictable and manipulative. According to Pace, Brolin brings a deceptive energy to the role, making it impossible to know whatâs genuine â which, Pace pointed out, is entirely the point of the character.
I’m really excited about The Running Man! It’s a fresh take on the classic story â both the 1987 movie and Stephen King’s original novel. The story follows Ben Richards, and Glen Powell does an amazing job playing him as a guy who’s really down on his luck and enters this crazy, televised game just to try and provide for his family. Basically, he has to survive for 30 days while being hunted by these ruthless people, like this character Evan, and itâs all for the amusement of a huge audience that just wants to see chaos. It sounds intense!
The film also delves into how the media can exploit people, the struggle to survive, and a breakdown of ethics. These power dynamicsâwhere one character controls and manipulates anotherâare reminiscent of the relationship between Thanos and Ronan in Guardians of the Galaxy.
It is scheduled to release on November 14, 2025.
