*Warning: Contains spoilers for Blue Lights season 3*
The latest season of the popular police drama Blue Lights is finishing up on BBC One, but all episodes are already available to watch on BBC iPlayer since September.
This season was the most challenging and emotionally intense yet for the PSNI team. The show explored Grace’s history and Annie dealt with a heartbreaking loss.
Those who’ve finished season 3 will realize it doesn’t offer a complete resolution, leaving several storylines open-ended. The big question now is whether these loose ends will be addressed in a potential fourth season, and if so, when it might arrive.
Read on for everything you need to know about Blue Lights season 4.
Will there be a Blue Lights season 4?

Yes, there will be a fourth season of Blue Lights! It was actually confirmed a while back, when the show was also renewed for season three.
When the show received a two-season renewal in February 2024, creators Declan Lawn and Adam Patterson expressed their excitement. They stated that the BBC’s commitment would allow them to tell the large-scale, ambitious story they originally envisioned for Blue Lights.
We’re grateful to the BBC, Two Cities/STV, and Gallagher Films, as well as our incredibly talented cast and crew. Above all, thank you to our viewers for connecting with the show so deeply. Now, back to work!
Stephen Wright and Louise Gallagher, the creators and executive producers of the show, expressed their excitement about the renewal for two more series, calling it a huge show of support for everyone involved – from the writers and actors to the entire production team.
We’re incredibly grateful for the BBC’s fantastic partnership, which has really helped make ‘Blue Lights’ a success. The whole team wants to thank them for believing in our show and for all their support – we’re lucky to work with such a great group of people.
We have many more stories planned and are excited to resume filming with the Blue Lights team in Belfast.
Lindsay Salt, Director of Drama at the BBC, shared her excitement about the positive response to Blue Lights and announced that the network has commissioned two more series of the popular Belfast-based drama.
Adam and Declan have come up with some amazing plans for the characters, and I’m really excited for viewers to see what happens next.
When will Blue Lights season 4 be released?

The gap between seasons 2 and 3 was a bit longer than usual – fans had to wait about 17 months. But this was anticipated, as the writers wanted to plan and prepare for both seasons 3 and 4 simultaneously.
Considering the current timeline, we anticipate season 4 will be released about a year after season 3, potentially around September 2026.
Right now, this is just based on rumors, as the official release date hasn’t been announced yet. We’ll keep this page updated with any new information we receive.
Who will return to star in Blue Lights season 4?

It’s likely that the main actors from Blue Lights season 3 – including Siân Brooke (Grace), Martin McCann (Stevie), Nathan Braniff (Tommy), and Katherine Devlin (Annie) – will be back for season 4.
Michael Smiley is likely to return, having joined the show in season 3. However, it’s uncertain if Aisling will be back for season 4, as she’s currently recovering at a clinic in Berkshire. We’ll have to wait and see if she rejoins the team.
