Jennifer Lawrence’s new film, Die My Love, received a significant number of nominations for the 2025 British Independent Film Awards, the nominations for which were revealed today, November 3rd.
Lynne Ramsey’s film, featuring Robert Pattinson, earned eight nominations in categories like Best Director and Best Leading Performance, making it the fourth most-nominated film overall.
Currently, the frontrunner appears to be Akinola Davies Jr.’s My Father’s Shadow, a highly praised film arriving in UK cinemas next February. It’s the story of two brothers gaining new insight into their father during a significant time in his life and Nigeria’s history, and it’s up for 12 awards.
The awards also encompassed Best British Independent Film, as well as Best Director and Best Screenplay, both of which were awarded to Paul Davies and his brother and co-writer, Wale Davies.

Coming in second is Harry Lighton’s first film, Pillion, which received 10 nominations. Kirk Jones’s biographical movie, I Swear, about Scottish Tourette’s advocate John Davidson, took third place with nine nominations.
Along with My Father’s Shadow, the films The Ballad of Wallis Island and Urchin (Harris Dickinson’s first film as a director) are also competing for the Best British Independent Film award.
Naomi Lawrence is going up against an all-male group of competitors for the Best Lead Performance award. The other nominees are Robert Aramayo for ‘I Swear’, Frank Dillane for ‘Urchin’, David Jonsson for ‘Wasteman’, Harry Melling for ‘Pillion’, and Cillian Murphy for ‘Steve’.
Only one woman, Maxine Peake, is nominated for Best Supporting Performance. She’s up against her “I Swear” co-stars Peter Mullan and Scott Ellis Watson, as well as Tom Blyth (“Wasteman”), Jay Lycurgo (“Steve”), and Alexander Skarsgård (“Pillion”).

The Best Breakthrough Performance category has a more even mix of genders among its nominees. Actors Ebada Hassan and Safiyya Ingar from ‘Brides’ are up for the award, along with Posy Sterling from ‘Lollipop,’ Scott Ellis Watson from ‘I Swear,’ and Connor Tompkins from ‘The Son and the Sea.’
Brenda Blethyn and Andrea Riseborough, stars of the film Dragonfly, are nominated for Best Joint Performance, along with Hassan and Ingar from Brides, and Tim Key and Tom Basden who appeared together in The Ballad of Wallis Island.
The film Warfare, featuring D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Joseph Quinn, and Charles Melton, has been announced as this year’s winner of the Best Ensemble Performance award.
The full list of nominees is available on the official BIFA website.
