It’s getting harder to find truly great Christmas movies, so when one comes along, it’s worth celebrating! Some would say we haven’t had a new Christmas classic in over two decades, with Elf and The Polar Express being the most recent to really capture everyone’s hearts. However, there have still been some good holiday films released recently, like the award-winning The Holdovers from 2023, and a funny independent movie from last year that’s now available on Hulu.
Hulu started streaming the well-received holiday comedy Christmas Eve in Millerâs Point on Tuesday, making it available on a major streaming platform for the first time. This gives viewers a chance to discover a new and potentially unseen Christmas movie.
Tyler Taormina directed Christmas Eve in Millerâs Point, a film featuring a large cast. Rising star Elsie Fisher, known from Eighth Grade, leads the ensemble, which also includes Francesca Scorsese (daughter of Martin Scorsese) and Sawyer Spielberg (son of Steven Spielberg). Michael Cera and Gregg Turkington play local police officers.
The movie takes place on Christmas Eve and centers around a large family coming together for one final holiday in their family home. They’re selling the house to help cover the costs of caring for their grandmother, and as the night unfolds, old family tensions begin to emerge. Meanwhile, one of the teenage granddaughters slips away to have some fun with her friends.
âChristmas Eve in Millerâs Pointâ feels a lot like the low-budget, naturalistic indie films that were popular in the mid-2000s, and thatâs no surprise considering Michael Cera is involved. He doesnât just star in the movie, he also helped produce it.
Whatâs New on Hulu?
The new Hulu movie, Christmas Eve in Millerâs Point, is available just after the streaming service added a lot of titles at the beginning of November. This included several Christmas movies like Miracle on 34th Street, The Family Stone, and Deck the Halls.
