In the latest episode of Tracker season 3, a new character was introduced who may present challenges for Colter Shaw (Justin Hartley). As Tracker begins a fresh chapter with a revised team around Colter, the show is heading in a new direction.
The show Tracker has gone through several changes in recent years due to decisions about its cast. After Robin Weigert, who played Teddi Bruin, left after the first season, things felt unsettled as the second season began. Later, the series lost another main cast member.
Fans were puzzled when Eric Graise, who played Bobby Exley on Tracker, suddenly left the show. It became clear by the season’s end that both Bobby and Velma Bruin (Abby McEnany) wouldn’t be returning. Now, with a new member joining the team in season 3, Colter might face some complications.
Tracker’s New Character, Mel Day, Rounds Out Reenie’s Staff

In the third episode of Tracker, titled “First Fire”, the show introduces a new character who begins working in Reenie Green’s (Fiona Rene) office. Mel Day (Cassady McClincy Zhang) quickly explains her experience to Reenie, and reveals she was particularly drawn to working with the attorney because of Reenie’s previous work with Colter.
Mel shared that her mother’s unsolved death deeply affected her. She felt the police prioritized their own reputation over finding answers, which fueled her desire to work for a more independent organization. Although Mel appears to be a good fit for the team, her reasons for joining are less straightforward than those of Randy (Chris De’Sean Lee), who replaced Reenie and Bobby.

I’m still trying to figure out Mel, honestly. We don’t know much about her past or why she ended up with Colter’s team, and it just feels… strange. I get that Tracker season 3 might be trying to build out Reenie’s world with people she already knows, but Mel’s particular focus on Colter really worries me. It doesn’t quite sit right.
It was unusual that Mel already knew about Colter when she interviewed with Reenie, and a little suspicious. She quickly seemed to adapt to the world of Tracker, but it’s still too early to say whether she’ll play a significant role in Colter Shaw’s life or just become another minor part of the bigger picture.
