Fans have been hoping to see the Young Avengers join the Marvel Cinematic Universe for four years, but so far, it hasn’t happened. The team first appeared in their own comic book, Young Avengers #1, created by Allan Heinberg and Jim Cheung, back in April 2005. The core idea is a group of young, teenage heroes who unite, many with connections to the original Avengers. While the team members have changed over time, the Young Avengers have been a consistent part of Marvel Comics for twenty years.
Throughout the recent phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), several characters who could become the Young Avengers—and other teenage heroes—have been introduced, hinting at a future team-up. Michael Waldron, a writer on Avengers: Doomsday, even shared that there was a plan to first bring the team together in the now-canceled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While it’s still unclear if or when the Young Avengers will officially form, here’s a look at every potential member who’s appeared in the MCU so far.

Cassie Lang (‘Ant-Man,’ ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’)

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
While the Young Avengers are becoming a bigger part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Multiverse Saga, the team’s first member actually appeared way back in Phase 2 with Cassie Lang, Ant-Man’s daughter. Abby Ryder Fortson played young Cassie in the first two Ant-Man movies. Then, after a five-year jump in Avengers: Endgame, Emma Fuhrmann took over the role before Kathryn Newton became Cassie in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Cassie Lang started her journey to becoming a superhero, adopting the name Stature and a costume inspired by her comic book identity, Stinger. She played a key role in helping her father defeat Kang the Conqueror within the Quantum Realm. As a prominent member of the Young Avengers in Marvel comics, a hint of Cassie joining the team in the Marvel Cinematic Universe appeared at the end of The Marvels, when Ms. Marvel mentioned Ant-Man having a daughter.

Wiccan (‘WandaVision,’ ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ ‘Agatha All Along’)

Disney+
The Disney+ series WandaVision first introduced Billy and Tommy Maximoff, two characters who are destined to become members of the Young Avengers. Julian Hilliard returned as a version of Billy Maximoff in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The show Agatha All Along explained that the magical energy Wanda used to create her sons bonded with the spirit of William Kaplan, a boy who had previously died. Billy Maximoff, who later becomes the superhero Wiccan (played by Joe Locke in Agatha All Along), is shown to be a powerful magic user, inheriting his abilities from his mother, Wanda Maximoff.
The Disney+ series WandaVision, which introduced characters like Wiccan and Speed, began a trend in 2021 of featuring members of the Young Avengers in various Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. While originally not planned as the kickoff to the Multiverse Saga or the beginning of Phase Four, the COVID-19 pandemic shifted its release schedule, unexpectedly making it the first installment. As a result, the subtle introduction of the Young Avengers as a potential team became a significant element of this new phase of the franchise.

Speed (‘WandaVision,’ ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ ‘VisionQuest’)

Disney+
Billy Maximoff has a twin brother named Tommy Maximoff, who is portrayed by Jett Klyne in both the WandaVision series and the Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness film. In the Marvel comics, Tommy is known as Speed, and like his uncle Quicksilver, he has the ability to run at incredibly high speeds.
Speed appears later in the comic book version of the Young Avengers, found by Wiccan. The Disney+ series WandaVision hinted at Wiccan searching for a lost brother, and this storyline continues in the upcoming VisionQuest, where Ruaridh Mollica will play Speed. Interestingly, Mollica and Emma Locke (who plays Wiccan) previously acted as a couple in a play called Clarkston. This continues a pattern in the Marvel Cinematic Universe of casting actors who have played romantic partners to then portray the Maximoff siblings.

Patriot (‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’)

Disney+
Eli Bradley, also known as Patriot, made a brief appearance in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, portrayed by Elijah Richardson. Similar to the comics, he’s the grandson of Isaiah Bradley. While the comic book version of Patriot believes he gained superpowers from a blood transfusion containing his grandfather’s super-soldier serum, the truth is he actually gets his abilities from an experimental drug called Mutant Growth Hormone (MGH). The Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t touched on this drug storyline, leaving fans curious about what role Eli might play in the future, especially concerning the Young Avengers.
As a fan, I was so excited when Eli Bradley showed up in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier! With Billy and Tommy Maximoff already introduced in WandaVision, it really seemed like Marvel was setting him up to be a major Young Avenger. But a lot happened between when that show came out in 2021 and the release of Captain America: Brave New World in 2025. I was disappointed to learn that Eli was originally supposed to be in the new movie, but they ended up cutting his scenes. Apparently, they just had too many characters and storylines to juggle!

Kid Loki (‘Loki’)

Disney+
Kid Loki didn’t appear with the original Young Avengers team. He joined them later, in the second series of Young Avengers which began in 2013. This younger version of Thor’s adopted brother and rival was created by Marvel Comics to reimagine Loki as a more sympathetic character, building on the character’s increased popularity from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the Loki series, Kid Loki was portrayed by Jack Veal in episodes four and five.
Following WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, the introduction of Kid Loki in 2021 led many to believe Marvel Studios was setting up the Young Avengers team. However, after last appearing in the Void, it was unclear if Kid Loki would return. Separately, in 2024, actor Jack Veal, who played Kid Loki, shared on TikTok that he had experienced homelessness due to a difficult and abusive family situation. He later announced he had connected with social services for support.
5
Kate Bishop (‘Hawkeye’)

Disney+
Unlike other members of the Young Avengers who had smaller parts, Kate Bishop was the first to become a main character, starring in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. Actress Hailee Steinfeld plays Kate, the daughter of a successful businesswoman named Eleanor Bishop. Kate was inspired to become an archer after witnessing Hawkeye’s bravery during the Battle of New York, the same day her father died. The series follows Kate as she teams up with her hero, Clint Barton, for a Christmas adventure, bringing them into conflict with Maya Lopez and the powerful Wilson Fisk, also known as Kingpin.
The series Hawkeye concludes with Kate Bishop spending Christmas with the Barton family, hinting she’s destined to take over as Hawkeye. She appears again in The Marvels, where Ms. Marvel recruits her for what seems to be the beginnings of the Young Avengers. A different version of Kate Bishop also joins a similar team with Ms. Marvel and Ironheart in Marvel Zombies. Hailee Steinfeld, who plays Kate, wants to continue the role, and because she’s a popular actress and her character is well-liked, she could potentially become a lead in a future Young Avengers project.
4
America Chavez (‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’)

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures
Similar to Kid Loki, America Chavez became a member of the Young Avengers when the team’s second comic book series began in 2013. In the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Xochitl Gomez portrays America Chavez as a young woman who can travel between different universes. Interestingly, the film reveals that no other versions of her exist in any reality. This makes her a target for the Scarlet Witch, who wants to use America’s powers to travel the multiverse and find the versions of her children she created in Westview.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’ve been following America Chavez since her introduction! After getting help from Doctor Strange, she was training with the sorcerers at Kamar-Taj. It’s interesting to learn she was originally planned for Spider-Man: No Way Home, but when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness got delayed because of COVID, they had to cut her from that movie. We haven’t seen her character since 2022, but Xochitl Gomez, who plays America, has teased that she might show up in Avengers: Doomsday, which is exciting!
3
Skaar (‘She-Hulk: Attorney at Law’)

Disney+
One of the most surprising additions to the potential Young Avengers lineup is Skaar. He appeared at the end of the She-Hulk: Attorney at Law series, played by Wil Deusner, and is Bruce Banner/The Hulk’s son from his time on the planet Sakaar, as seen in Thor: Ragnarok. We haven’t seen or heard much about Skaar since 2022, and in the comics, he isn’t connected to the Young Avengers or the Champions, another team of teen superheroes. However, there’s speculation that the MCU might combine Skaar with the Young Avenger Hulkling – a key member of the team in the comics – into a single character.
In the Marvel comics, Hulkling has a unique background: he’s the son of the Kree hero Mar-Vell (Captain Marvel) and a Skrull princess, and is often portrayed as someone who could bring peace between those two groups. The Marvel Cinematic Universe might use a similar origin story, even with a female Mar-Vell played by Annette Bening. However, some believe they might combine Hulkling and Skaar into a single character, especially since Skaar already connects the Young Avengers to the Hulk. If Skaar is used, fans would especially want to see his romantic relationship with Billy Maximoff (Wiccan) included, as it’s a key part of Hulkling’s story.
2
Ms. Marvel (‘Ms. Marvel,’ ‘The Marvels’)

Disney+
While Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, wasn’t originally a Young Avenger in the comics, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) appears to be establishing her as the team’s leader and first member, hinted at in a scene after the credits of The Marvels. This suggests the MCU’s Young Avengers will draw inspiration from both the classic team and the Champions, another group of teenage heroes that Ms. Marvel was a part of. Iman Vellani brilliantly portrays Ms. Marvel, first appearing in her own Disney+ series and later in the 2023 film The Marvels.
Ms. Marvel is a popular hero who protects Jersey City. She’s a teenage Pakistani-American who gained superpowers from a special band that activated a hidden mutant ability. While it’s not certain if she’ll be in Avengers: Doomsday, fans are eager to see her join the team. A different version of Ms. Marvel starred in Marvel Zombies, where she teamed up with Kate Bishop and another upcoming hero.
1
Ironheart (‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ ‘Ironheart’)

Disney+
Dominique Thorne introduced Riri Williams, also known as Ironheart, to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Riri is a brilliant inventor who built her own high-tech suit similar to Iron Man’s. She later headlined her own Disney+ series, which premiered in June 2025. Different versions of Riri Williams have also shown up in the animated series What If…? and Marvel Zombies.
I’ve been following Riri Williams since she first appeared in comics back in 2016, and I’m really excited about her potential. While she hasn’t officially joined the Young Avengers in the comics, she’s always been a helpful ally, and she even teamed up with Ms. Marvel in the Champions. Seeing her work with a Young Avengers-style group in Marvel Zombies makes me think Marvel Studios has big plans for her when that team finally comes together in the main MCU timeline. But honestly, the way her last comic ended, with that huge cliffhanger involving Mephisto, leaves me wondering how they’re going to fit her story into everything now!
