Open Source PS2 Emulator Now Plays Almost Entire Console’s Library

Great news for video game history! The PCSX2 emulator, which is free and open-source, can now play over 99.5% of all PlayStation 2 games, making it easier than ever to preserve and enjoy classic titles.

Okay, so I’ve been testing a bunch of games, and honestly, things are looking pretty good! There are just a few that still have some problems – DRIV3R, Final Fantasy 11, Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects, and especially World Series Baseball 2K3. But everything else? I was able to play it without major issues, so you should be able to too!

With PCSX2, you can create backups of your PlayStation 2 system’s BIOS and copy games from your own physical discs. This lets you play those games on your computer, often with better graphics and faster performance than the original console.

This is a fantastic method for keeping your collection alive and playable on newer devices, particularly since Sony hasn’t focused much on creating strong emulation options.
