Spider-Man has always combined exciting superhero action with compelling emotional stories. Early Marvel comics succeeded by blending superhero adventures with the style of soap operas, and Spider-Man, designed to appeal to younger readers, was a perfect fit. A key element of soap operas is dramatic romance, and Spider-Man has certainly delivered on that front, with fans still debating his greatest love – Mary Jane, Black Cat, or Gwen Stacy. Now, there’s a new character adding fuel to those passionate debates about who should be with Spider-Man.
Issue #15 of The Amazing Spider-Man (2025) saw Spider-Man continuing his cosmic adventures with a team similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Rocket Raccoon. The issue explored Spider-Man’s personal struggles, explained the origin of his new suit, and introduced a new romantic interest for Peter Parker. However, this new relationship feels unnecessary and appears destined to fail.
Spidey’s Space Vacation/Avoidance Party

Following a terrible battle at Hellgate, Spider-Man found himself lost in space. Even after joining forces with others captured by Xanto to travel through the cosmos, he didn’t attempt to come back to Earth. This story began with Peter entering a gladiatorial contest to help Rocket pay off a debt. During the fight, he realized his new Technarch suit wasn’t just technology – it was a living being. He immediately restarted the suit to restore the original Technarch’s mind, risking his own life in the process. As it rebooted, the Technarch, a being called Glitch, and Spider-Man shared memories. Peter’s recollections of Hellgate revealed the villain had threatened to destroy Earth if Spider-Man ever returned, unless he could be stopped.
Once the team returned to the ship, Raelith confronted Peter, questioning his decision to risk everything to free Glitch, especially considering how much he wanted the power-up. Peter simply replied that it was the right thing to do, and he believed anyone would have acted the same way. Raelith then kissed him. She apologized for not asking first, but Peter assured her it was okay. They kissed again, unaware that Nikodimu was watching them.

Another Doomed Romance for the Lineup

Spider-Man has a new love interest, Raelith, but it’s clear this relationship won’t last. From the beginning, it feels temporary, as Spider-Man is heading back to New York soon, and it’s doubtful Raelith will follow. More importantly, this storyline highlights Peter avoiding his duties back on Earth, almost as if he’s treating his time in space like a getaway. He even prioritized kissing Raelith over discussing his important work with Rocket. Being with Raelith seems to be a way for Peter to escape his responsibilities, but ultimately, Spider-Man always answers the call when people need him, meaning this relationship is destined to end when he returns home.
Spider-Man already has plenty of romantic interests – Black Cat, Shay, and Mary Jane are still in the mix, and that’s already causing fan debates. Adding another character to the equation would just create more conflict and potential heartbreak. While Raelith seems like a great character, it’s better not to involve her in Peter Parker’s complicated love life, especially when he’s already struggling with his own commitments. Three options are enough, and introducing another would only lead to more disappointment.
It’s still unclear where Raelith and Spider-Man’s relationship is headed, but right now, they’re facing a lot of challenges. Considering Peter’s time in space will likely end with a major battle against Hellgate, it’s hard to see this relationship lasting. He needs to focus on getting stronger to win that fight, and he can’t afford to be sidetracked. Hopefully, Raelith won’t become a distraction for him.
