It’s clear that Blue Bloods will conclude after 14 seasons by late 2024, but the story isn’t over just yet. In fact, Donnie Wahlberg is set to return as Danny Reagan for a spinoff series titled Boston Blue, expected to debut this fall within the 2025 TV schedule. Wahlberg appears to be excited about the upcoming show, as he’s openly shown enthusiasm when talking about it. Recently, he shared a behind-the-scenes photo, making the idea of a sequel series feel more real for me.
The fall TV season will begin before we know it, so it makes sense that Boston Blue is now in production. Donnie Wahlberg shared an update on the crew’s progress, as he shared a photo from the table read to his Instagram stories. The snapshot not only shows a place card, which designates Wahlberg’s role as Danny, but it also shows a brief part of the script for the show’s pilot episode. Take a look for yourself:
Hearing about a new spinoff for Blue Bloods is exciting, but seeing actual progress makes it seem even more real. This small update gives me hope that the show might actually come to our screens soon. If only I could have been there during the reading of the script!

After a table read session, it seems like filming will commence quite soon. This has got me pondering about the potential behind-the-scenes insights that Donnie Wahlberg or any of his fellow cast members might decide to share next. Frankly, I’m unsure what exactly Wahlberg and the crew will be permitted to disclose once they start filming the series. However, it wouldn’t be surprising if some members of the ensemble chose to reveal non-spoilerish tidbits to keep fans excited for what’s ahead.
Previously hinted at, Donnie Wahlberg has been quite open about his enthusiasm for his upcoming show. After the spinoff’s announcement, Wahlberg simply posted a three-word message, “see you soon,” which likely got many fans excited. Wahlberg has also been candid about how the end of Blue Bloods affected his decision to join a spinoff series. Now, it appears that Wahlberg is ready to jump into the project, as he recently declared that this would be his “last break” for some time.

On the one-year anniversary of wrapping up filming for the series finale, Donnie Wahlberg and other Blue Bloods cast members honored the occasion.
In this revamped series titled Boston Blue, you’ll find former members of New Kids on the Block sharing the screen with Sonequa Martin-Green, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Ernie Hudson. This story follows Danny Reagan as he transfers from the New York Police Department to the Boston Police Department. In his new location, Danny forms a partnership with an officer connected to a prominent police family, much like the Reagans. As for whether other original Reagan characters will make an appearance, no official word has been given yet, but I’m hopeful that we’ll see more of them!
Eagerly speaking, I can’t wait to uncover what the Boston Blue has prepared for this fictional world, offering fresh perspectives. Here’s hoping Donnie Wahlberg will soon share another behind-the-scenes sneak peek with us. Until then, subscribe to Paramount+ and binge-watch all 14 seasons of Blue Bloods right away.
