Jessica Simpson Reveals How Long Her All’s Fair Prosthetics Look Took

Jessica Simpson was doing time in the makeup chair.

Following the reveal of her intentionally flawed appearance for her role in Ryan Murphy’s All’s Fair, the singer behind “Take My Breath Away” explained the extensive process it took to create her character LeAnn’s noticeably overdone Botox.

Jessica shared on Instagram on November 5th that creating her character for the Hulu series #AllsFair was a huge team effort – and involved six hours of makeup and prosthetics! She described the experience as amazing.

Jessica’s appearance was dramatically altered with the use of prosthetics to create swollen cheeks, a modified nose, sunken eyes, and fuller lips. Despite the unflattering transformation, Jessica expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to begin her acting career with this role.

She was thrilled to have the opportunity, saying, “I absolutely loved it!” She also expressed her admiration for Lee-Ann, hoping others would recognize her kindness and resilience as strongly as she did.

The actress, known from Newlyweds, expressed her thanks to Ryan, director Anthony Hemingway, and executive producers Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner. She explained that they gave her the space to fully embody a complex and emotionally resonant character.

Jessica, who shares three children – 13-year-old Maxi, 12-year-old Ace, and 6-year-old Birdie – with her ex-husband Eric Johnson, said she was surprised by how well she connected with the role before the new Hulu series premiered.

The 45-year-old actress told Entertainment Tonight at the show’s premiere on October 16th that she was surprised she could pull off the role. She explained she hadn’t acted in a while and usually plays more comedic, stereotypical characters, but this part required a lot of emotional depth and vulnerability.

The Employee of the Month winner impressed everyone – including herself – with her performance on the new series, which also features Kim, Sarah Paulson, Niecy Nash, and other talented actors.

Honestly, I was floored when she said she could make herself cry! It was amazing, she totally surprised even herself. And then she hinted at something completely wild – she said I’m about to see a side of her nobody’s ever seen before! I’m seriously losing it, it’s going to be incredible!

There are many examples, as you’ll soon see. Here are some actors who dramatically changed their appearance for roles…

Channing Tatum’s weight has changed quite a bit over the years, particularly in 2024, because he prepared for two movies filmed one after the other by physically transforming for each role.

In a March 2025 Instagram post, he revealed he currently weighed 205 pounds, a gain from the 172 pounds he weighed while filming Roofman (pictured right). Prior to Roofman, he filmed Josephine (pictured left) and weighed 235 pounds for the role.

To prepare for his Oscar-nominated performance as Bob Dylan in the film A Complete Unknown, the actor from Dune taught himself to sing and play guitar.

He also mentioned gaining twenty pounds, explaining in a January 2025 interview on NPR’s All Things Considered that he’d actually been smaller than the actor he was portraying.

Cillian Murphy, who plays J. Robert Oppenheimer in Christopher Nolan’s film Oppenheimer, lost a significant amount of weight for the role. He became very thin, reportedly living on a diet of mostly martinis and cigarettes. According to his costar Emily Blunt, the actor’s dedication to the demanding role led him to limit himself to just one almond per day.

The Academy Award-winning actor revealed he lost 52 pounds for his role as the Joker. He told the Associated Press that once he reached his goal weight, things became easier. He explained that the hardest part was constantly focusing on even tiny weight fluctuations, admitting it became almost obsessive and unhealthy.

Fans were surprised to see how muscular the former Spider-Man actor had become, with his noticeably larger biceps first appearing in Justice League.

He previously shared with TopMob News that his mother was concerned when he lost 30 pounds for the movie Nightcrawler. He said she mainly wanted him to be safe, but also understood and admired his dedication to his work.

Johnny Depp, known for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean, described how difficult it was, both physically and emotionally, to lose 52 pounds for his film The Cut.

He explained on This Morning that he was completely drained, both mentally and physically, and really irritable from being hungry. He admitted he was difficult to be around, struggling with paranoia and unwanted, intrusive thoughts.

He added that it’s best not to try this yourself, and warned it wasn’t something to be taken casually.

Michael B. Jordan, known for his role in Black Panther, added almost 30 pounds of muscle to convincingly play a boxer who goes from amateur to professional in the movie Creed.

The actor and musician won an Academy Award for his powerful performance in The Dallas Buyers Club. He dramatically lost 40 pounds to prepare for the part.

The Mindy Project alum had to gain 40 pounds for his role in Live by Night.

Renée Zellweger famously gained weight to convincingly play the charming Bridget Jones in the first two movies of the series.

Matthew McConaughey lost 30 pounds to play the lead role in The Dallas Buyer’s Club, a movie based on the true story of a man with AIDS in the 1980s who used and imported alternative treatments from Mexico to manage his illness.

The actress looked lean and strong for her starring role in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

The Les Misérables star took home an Oscar for her role in the musical.

Oh my gosh, you will NOT believe the dedication of this man! He completely transforms himself for every role. Remember The Machinist back in 2004? He lost over 60 pounds! And then he did it again for The Fighter with Mark Wahlberg. But it doesn’t stop there! He packed on 40 pounds for American Hustle, and then, can you believe it, he LOST a whopping 70 pounds for Ford v Ferrari! It’s insane, honestly. He’s a true artist, completely committed to his craft.

Jake Gyllenhaal transformed into a strikingly physical presence for his role in the 2010 film Prince of Persia. To get in shape, he trained in Parkour, a discipline of acrobatic movement and street running originating in France.

The Oscar-winning actor explained to Time magazine that his preparation for the 2000 film Cast Away – where he played a man stranded on a deserted island and lost over 50 pounds – simply required dedication and self-control.

The rapper surprised his followers with a recent photo showing his noticeably slimmer physique. He lost 54 pounds – dropping from 214 to 160 – in about nine weeks to prepare for his role as a football player battling cancer in the movie Things Fall Apart.

Actors often transform themselves for roles, and one famous example is when a celebrated performer received an Oscar nomination for playing the frightening and heavily tattooed character Max Cady in the 1991 film Cape Fear.

To play Dick Cheney in the 2018 movie Vice, the actor gained weight to more closely resemble the former Vice President.
