Marshawn Kneeland, Dallas Cowboys Player, Dead at 24

The NFL is mourning the loss of a young talent.

The Dallas Cowboys confirmed the death of defensive end Marshawn Kneeland on November 6th. He was 24 years old.

I was so saddened to hear about Marshawn. He was truly a special teammate and a wonderful person to be around within the Cowboys organization. My heart goes out to his girlfriend, Catalina, and his entire family during this incredibly difficult time. We’re all thinking of them and sending our deepest condolences.

I was so heartbroken to hear about Marshawn, and his agent, Jonathan Perzley, felt the same way. He’s not just Marshawn’s representative, but a really close friend, and he was clearly devastated by the news too.

Jonathan shared that he watched Marshawn transform from an aspiring player at Western Michigan into a well-respected professional with the Dallas Cowboys. He described Marshawn as someone who gave his all to football, pouring his heart into every play and practice. Jonathan expressed immense sadness over the loss of someone with such talent, spirit, and kindness, saying it was a pain difficult to describe.

He expressed his deep sadness for the family, teammates, and friends of the deceased, and offered the full support of the football community. He then asked for privacy and compassion for those grieving this significant loss.

The NFL also expressed its sadness upon hearing the news and offered condolences to Marshawn’s family and friends.

I was so shocked to hear about Marshawn. He was drafted by the Cowboys in 2024, and I really started to follow his career after that. Over almost two seasons, he played in 18 games, starting four of them, and made 26 tackles with one sack. It’s just heartbreaking, especially since he had just scored his first NFL touchdown in the game against the Cardinals a few days before. He was really starting to shine.

Just under two months before Marshawn entered the NFL draft, he faced a personal tragedy: his mother, Wendy Kneeland, passed away after a brief illness.

Losing my mom right after getting drafted was incredibly difficult, but I got through it. She was my biggest supporter growing up and really got me into football. I always had this dream of making it to the NFL, and I promised her I would. Thankfully, I was able to fulfill that promise to her, and that means everything to me.

He said it was difficult knowing his mother had seen him possibly reach the NFL and go through the journey, but he was grateful she was still in his life.

In fact, the football player had found a special way to honor his mother.

He explained that he carries an urn containing her ashes with him constantly. He added that he still feels her presence, as if she’s watching over him.
