Simu Liu Addresses His Shang-Chi Future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe After Doomsday (Exclusive)

After the epic conclusion of the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Endgame in 2019, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been introducing a lot of new heroes in its movies and shows to replace some of the original stars. We’ve seen characters like She-Hulk, Moon Knight, and the Eternals, but Simu Liu’s portrayal of Shang-Chi in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has become particularly popular. However, he’s only appeared in one movie so far, and fans are eager to see more.

Simu Liu finally played Shang-Chi in a 2021 movie, but hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since. Fans are excited to see him return in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film. While promoting his new Netflix movie, In Your Dreams, ComicBook asked Liu about his future as the Marvel hero. He gave a thoughtful answer about how many sequels Shang-Chi should have, and also shared his experience of working with actors he’s admired in the MCU.

Simu Liu Is Committed to Being the MCU’s Shang-Chi for the Long Haul

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ended with several potential storylines for future movies. These include Shang-Chi potentially joining the Avengers, discovering the origins and power of the Ten Rings, and his sister Xialing now leading the Ten Rings organization. Actor Simu Liu has expressed his enthusiasm for continuing the series for as long as he is able.

Liu shared in our interview that working alongside other Marvel actors significantly influenced his dedication to both acting and building a lasting career. He admitted, like many, he looks up to certain performers and strives to reach their level with each role, even while being his own toughest critic.

Okay, so I just joined the Marvel universe in a big way, working with actors who’ve lived with these characters for over two decades. Honestly, it’s a little intimidating stepping into something they’ve built so carefully for so long – I was practically trembling! But what keeps me going is remembering that you just have to show up and do your best work, and try not to overthink things. It’s easy to let self-doubt or feeling like a fraud hold you back, but you can’t let that stop you from giving it everything you’ve got.

He explained that the key is to stop thinking about personal recognition and simply concentrate on the task at hand. By focusing on the character’s goals and taking things one step at a time, he believes that after years of dedication, someone might look at your work and be truly impressed, wishing they could achieve the same level of quality.

The new movie, In Your Dreams, hits cinemas this Friday, November 7th, and will be available to stream on Netflix starting next Friday, November 14th.
