I’ve been a huge fan of Stranger Things for ages, and with season 5 on the way, everyone thinks it’s the very last one. But it’s not quite that simple, apparently. Season 4 left us all on the edge of our seats with Vecna almost breaking through to our world from the Upside Down, so this next season feels really important.
The events of the series left its main characters shaken, separated, and unsure of what was next. As the fifth and final season of Stranger Things approaches, it seems the ending won’t be a complete conclusion. Instead, the story is subtly growing beyond the original show, taking the characters of Hawkins in a surprising new direction.
The new series, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, will be noticeably different from the original Stranger Things, but the world of the show isn’t ending with the fifth season. Even though creators have repeatedly said season 5 will be the last, a technicality is allowing the story to continue beyond the finale.
Tales From ’85 Means Stranger Things Season 5 Isn’t The Last We’ll See Of The OG Characters
Netflix’s New Sister Series Is An Animated Piece Of The Puzzle

Even though season 5 will be the last of the main Stranger Things story, the world of the show isn’t going away completely. An animated spin-off called Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is planned for release in 2026. This new series will feature the original characters in a story taking place between seasons 2 and 3, but with a different group of actors providing their voices.
Even though season 5 of Stranger Things is being presented as the end of the story, Tales From ’85 will continue the adventures of the characters in animated form. This new series lets viewers enjoy fresh stories with new monsters and mysteries, all while staying within the original timeline but without the limitations of live-action filming.
Why Stranger Things’ Upcoming Animated Show Is More Of An Expansion, Not A Spinoff
It Promises To Expand The Story, Not Add New Lore
Netflix
Even though Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 reveals more about what happened between seasons 2 and 3 of Stranger Things, it doesn’t introduce new backstory or information about the main characters. Watching Tales From ’85 won’t spoil the ending of Stranger Things season 5, as it simply adds to the existing story instead of creating new lore.
Okay, so the new Stranger Things: Tales From ’85 is a bit of a departure – it’s animated and features a completely new cast. Honestly, that’s exactly what this spin-off needed. It doesn’t feel like they’re trying to replace the original show or reinvent the wheel, but rather add a fresh, exciting chapter to the story we already love. It stands on its own, which is brilliant, and allows the main Stranger Things universe to continue without feeling crowded. I think this approach is a really smart way to expand the lore and give fans something new without messing with what works.
