Want to feel a little older? The actor who played Kevin McCallister in Home Alone is now 45 years old. It’s one thing to know that time has passed, but a new ad campaign really brought it home for me. The ad shows an adult Kevin with children of his own, and even helping to care for his mom, which makes you realize just how much time has gone by.
Macaulay Culkin has “reprised” his role as Kevin in a new ad campaign for Home Instead, a senior care company. The ad (posted by ET) shows Kevin covering the house from Home Alone in bubble wrap in order to keep his aging mother safe, when he meets the granddaughter of an old friend. Check it out:

Wow, seeing Macaulay Culkin selling something just makes me feel…old! I grew up watching Home Alone, and it’s crazy to think that was so long ago. But honestly, it’s kind of perfect that he’s the one selling it, right? It’s a little wild to wrap my head around.
It’s great to see him enjoying playing the character. Many actors who become so closely identified with a single role don’t actually relish the experience, and that’s why they usually avoid things like this. For a long time, Culkin seemed to want to move away from being associated with Home Alone, but recently he appears to have made peace with it.

He’s also appeared in a Google Assistant commercial. While those were comedic, his new ad is surprisingly touching, which makes sense considering the sentimental theme.

Luckily, if you don’t have the DVD, it’s currently streaming on Disney+, which is perfect for a cozy Christmas movie night.
I’m hearing this is just the first of a series of ads, which is exciting! It sounds like they might show Macaulay Culkin revisiting other iconic spots from Home Alone, or even interacting with more of the original cast. Honestly, I’d love to see Catherine O’Hara pop up as his mom – that would be a really sweet and nostalgic Christmas moment!
