Planet She-Hulk Creators Tease a Sakaar “Turned Up to Eleven” (Exclusive)

Okay, so “Planet She-Hulk” just hit the stands, and let me tell you, it’s a blast! Think a bit of “Game of Thrones” mixed with the Marvel Universe. Basically, Jennifer Walters – She-Hulk, of course – was left in charge on New Sakaar by her cousin, and what was supposed to be a quick gig has turned into total chaos. She just wants to get back home, but things keep throwing curveballs her way. It’s a really fun read, and watching Jen struggle with everything – both the external challenges and her own limits – is genuinely exciting. Trust me, it’s as unpredictable for her as it is for us, the readers!

I recently chatted with Stephanie Phillips, the writer of the new Planet She-Hulk series, and artist Aaron Kuder, and let me tell you, they’ve got something special brewing. They both emphasized a really immersive story, with some fantastic world-building that’s going to pull readers in from page one. Plus, I’m excited to share an exclusive first look at the cover for Planet She-Hulk #4, so keep reading for all the details!

Love, Betrayal, Magic, and Violence Are Ahead for She-Hulk

We saw a glimpse of what to expect with Imperial War: Planet She-Hulk, but this new book is allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the story, which is great as a fan. What do you find most exciting about Planet She-Hulk?

What I’m most excited about with this book is creating a new world alongside Aaron and watching it unfold through Jen’s eyes. We’ll be introducing a lot of new characters, and it’s been fun to see how Jen’s logical and rational approach clashes with a planet that thrives on violence and disorder.

Since Jennifer isn’t related to Sakaar, her approach to handling things will likely be quite different. What do you think is her biggest hurdle now that she’s in charge?

Jen initially came to New Sakaar to help her cousin, but she’s finding it harder and harder to leave. She’s struggling to reconcile her responsibilities with her longing for home. Jen prefers order and reason, but Sakaar is a chaotic place that demands a different kind of leadership – one she never expected.

What is something you think that will surprise readers the most about Planet She-Hulk?

Viewers are in for a really exciting and captivating ride with this story. Planet She-Hulk throws Jen into a chaotic, fantastical world that pushes her to her absolute limits. Expect romance, backstabbing, magic, and plenty of action – it’s like the best parts of Sakaar, but even more intense.

She-Hulk’s Sword is Cool (But It Might Not Be the Only Cool Thing Coming!)

The artwork in Planet She-Hulk #1 is amazing, and the action scenes are really dynamic. What’s been the most enjoyable part of working on this comic for you?

I’ve really enjoyed working on this book – drawing Jen is a lot of fun! She’s a strong character with a great sense of humor, and I love that she’s both a powerful superhero and someone who feels realistically flawed. The characters from Sakaar are also fantastic to draw; they each have such distinct personalities and feel like fully developed individuals, not just supporting roles. It’s like building many pieces that all come together to create something bigger, which is a really satisfying feeling – maybe that doesn’t make sense to everyone, but it’s been a really refreshing experience.

Jennifer has a really impressive sword – it’s a fantastic weapon! Are there any other exciting surprises or cool items fans should keep an eye out for?

It’s difficult to explain how each part of the story contributes to the overall impact without revealing spoilers, but everything is interconnected!

So, you also worked on the Godzilla vs. Thor artwork! Between She-Hulk and Godzilla, which character is more enjoyable to illustrate? And if they ever battled, who do you think would come out on top?

They all have something enjoyable about them. Jen really captures the spirited energy of Rosie the Riveter – that “We Can Do It!” attitude. And Godzilla? He’s just classic, destructive Godzilla! I’d love to draw a She-Hulk versus Godzilla battle if you’re interested, and I can send it your way.

ComicBook has an exclusive first look at the cover for Planet She-Hulk #4! The artwork by Kuder reveals the return of Jack of Hearts, but their reunion with She-Hulk is far from friendly. They were once lovers, but now find themselves fighting to the death on the planet Sakaar! It seems Sakaar has a way of changing people. In this issue, She-Hulk must confront her past in order to protect the planet’s future. Planet She-Hulk #4 will be available on February 11th.

Phillips explained that he enjoyed the development of the connection between Jen and Jack of Hearts, making it feel natural to include Jack in Planet She-Hulk and explore how their relationship could progress given Jen’s unique situation.
