Production has officially begun on the highly anticipated live-action Legend of Zelda movie. According to a recent report from the Film & Television Industry Alliance (FTIA), filming started on November 4, 2025, and is scheduled to wrap up on April 7, 2026. The movie will be filmed in Wellington, New Zealand, a location well-known for hosting major fantasy projects like The Lord of the Rings.

Okay, so they’re making a live-action movie based on The Legend of Zelda! It’s gonna follow Link, this young hero who’s basically Hyrule’s last hope against some seriously bad guys. Apparently, this villain, Ganon, is after the Triforce – this ancient artifact that’s supposed to give whoever controls it unlimited power. Sounds like a classic Zelda story, and I’m hyped to see it brought to life!

A Full Cast Already in Place
YouTuber Mike Odyssey (@MikeOdysseyYT) was one of the first to share the news that the cast for the upcoming Zelda movie has been finalized and an announcement is expected shortly. Odyssey also suggested a first look at the movie, possibly a teaser trailer, could be released around the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda next year.
Reece Reilly, known online as Kiwi Talkz and based in New Zealand, confirmed the report was accurate. Now, fans believe the complete cast list will be revealed either by Nintendo or Sony Pictures, the studio co-producing the movie with Arad Productions and Nintendo’s film team.
Although the full list of actors hasn’t been revealed yet, sources say the roles of Link and Princess Zelda are already cast. This has sparked a lot of online discussion among fans, who are now speculating about who will play Ganon and other important characters.
Fans React: Excitement and Caution
The announcement totally blew up online, especially on Reddit! Everyone’s buzzing about what the movie’s gonna be about. A lot of people are hoping they adapt Ocarina of Time or Breath of the Wild, but honestly, I’m kinda hoping for something completely new – an original story that pulls from all over the Zelda universe.
