Superhero movies and TV shows remain incredibly popular, and we’re seeing many interconnected universes. James Gunn is leading a fresh start for DC with a new series of films and shows called ‘Gods and Monsters,’ but Matt Reeves’ ‘Batman’ films exist in their own separate world. Now, Madelaine Petsch, known for her role in ‘Riverdale,’ has publicly expressed her desire to play the villain Poison Ivy and is actively trying to convince Reeves to cast her.
What we know about The Batman Part II is limited, as it’ll be years before it finally hits theaters. Fans who spent years watching the DC movies in order are curious about how the burgeoning franchise (which is streaming with a HBO Max subscription) will bring in more of Batman’s villains. In a video on Instagram, Petsch admitted that she’s actively trying to play Poison Ivy, saying:
I’ve always dreamed of playing Poison Ivy! I even dressed up as her for Halloween years ago, hoping to get the attention of people like Matt Reeves. They haven’t made a Poison Ivy movie yet, so it’s still just a possibility.
I really admire her dedication to eventually playing Poison Ivy. She’s not only talked about her interest online, but she even dressed as the Batman villain for Halloween. This could get the attention of director Matt Reeves and his team, and maybe even encourage fans to start a campaign for her to be cast. However, it’s unknown if Reeves is actually noticing her efforts.

HBO Max offers streaming access to DC Comics content – including the DCU, DCEU, and classic titles – as well as a wide variety of movies, shows, and documentaries. Plans begin at $10.99 per month with ads.
The movie The Batman offered a realistic and intense portrayal of Gotham City, with costumes designed to look authentic rather than directly from the comics. Its TV series, The Penguin, has been critically acclaimed, winning an Emmy, and people are eager to learn more about the upcoming sequel. Actress Madelaine Petsch has expressed interest in playing Poison Ivy, and a Halloween costume post she shared a few years ago can be found below.

I think Madelaine Petsch is absolutely perfect for this role – her red hair is such a striking feature, and it really works for the character. Plus, anyone who’s seen her as Cheryl Blossom on Riverdale (you can find it on Netflix!) knows she’s fantastic at playing these kinds of complex, sometimes a little twisted, characters. She’s been steadily building her film career since Riverdale ended, and she’s even started producing too, which is great to see. Everyone’s wondering if she’ll actually land the role of Poison Ivy in a future DC movie, but honestly, only time will tell!
Everyone is eagerly anticipating the next Batman film from director Matt Reeves, but fans will have to wait until 2027 to see it. In the meantime, there’s speculation that actress Peyton List might be cast as the villain Poison Ivy.
The next Batman movie is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on October 1st, 2027. Since it won’t be out until then, fans will have to wait a while. Hopefully, the studio will share more details about the film soon.
