Katherine Schwarzenegger is the guardian of her own galaxy.
She’s prepared to put her family first, even if it means leaving her Hollywood career. The author of The Gift of Forgiveness shared that being close to her husband, Chris Pratt, and their children – Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, who is one year old – is the only reason she’d move away from the entertainment industry.
Katherine shared with Fox News Digital that she and her husband, along with their children, are open to moving wherever her parents and siblings decide to go. She envisions the whole family getting together to collectively choose their next location.
What does the 35-year-old—the oldest of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver’s four children—envision for her ideal family home?
Honestly, what I really want is to be surrounded by animals – it’s a huge passion of mine! But I also deeply value being close to my family, so I think having them as my main support system is the perfect balance. I can get my animal fix in other ways, and still have that strong family connection I need.
The writer of Kat and Brandy explained that being close to her family – her parents and siblings – is the most important thing to her. She feels incredibly lucky to be able to provide that same closeness for her own children, something she wouldn’t trade for anything.
Oh my gosh, Katherine and Chris are just the sweetest! And did you know Chris has a son, Jack, who’s thirteen, with Anna Faris? They’ve always been so open about family life, and honestly, Katherine was saying how much everything changed when little Ford arrived last November. It’s just so heartwarming to see how happy they are as a family!
He described the situation as “beautiful chaos,” telling TopMob News in August that it’s been incredibly busy but wonderful. He’s cherishing every moment he gets to spend at home, feeling grateful for it all.

Chris wasn’t the only one relaxing this summer—his daughters were also busy improving their diving.
The girls have just begun swimming in the pool, wearing their goggles. I’m going to join them and teach them how to dive and retrieve objects from the bottom. It’s a full-blown pool party – we have music, a barbecue, and everyone is enjoying the sun and the water.

After 19 seasons, The Ellen DeGeneres Show ended in 2022 following reports of a negative and harmful work environment. These reports led to an internal investigation, the firing of several producers, and widespread public criticism.
Ellen DeGeneres recently returned to performing with her Netflix stand-up special, For Your Approval, released in September 2024. Before the special aired, she announced her plans to leave Hollywood completely.
During her recent stand-up tour, Ellen DeGeneres announced to her audience that she plans to retire after her upcoming Netflix special, according to SFGate. She and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have since moved to England. Ellen confirmed to Richard Bacon in July 2025 that they relocated in November 2024 following Donald Trump’s reelection.

Okay, so you guys will NOT believe why Tyra Banks moved to Australia! It’s all about her ice cream, SMiZE and Dream! I’ve been following her for years, and honestly, this just makes me love her even more. She was on Today with Jenna & Friends in April 2025 and explained everything. Apparently, she’s been doing a lot of business-to-business stuff with her ice cream – like getting it served on airplanes and cruises – and they were actually making it in a huge facility in Australia! She said she just completely fell in love with the country every time she visited. And get this – she realized Australia is one of the TOP ice cream-eating countries in the world, right after America and New Zealand! It just made SO much sense for her business. So she packed up and moved her whole family – her son York (whose dad is Erik Asla) and her boyfriend Louis Bélanger-Martin – and she says it’s been a dream come true! I mean, could she BE any more of a boss?!

Eva Longoria, known for her role on Desperate Housewives, has moved from Los Angeles and now splits her time between Mexico and Spain with her husband, José Bastón, and their son, Santiago. She explained to Marie Claire that while she enjoyed living in Los Angeles for most of her adult life, the city had changed, and the pandemic accelerated that shift. Factors like homelessness and taxes also contributed to her decision, though she emphasizes she doesn’t want to criticize California.
Longoria clarified in an interview on The View: Behind the Table that her move wasn’t politically motivated, despite happening after the presidential election. She explained that work commitments, including filming Land of Women in Spain and Searching for Mexico, led to an extended stay, and she dislikes the idea of her decision being framed as political. She remains busy with acting projects like Only Murders in the Building and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Road Trip. She also expressed gratitude for her ability to move, acknowledging that many Americans don’t have the same opportunity and feels sadness for those who are stuck in what she describes as a difficult situation.

I’ve been following Richard Gere for years, and I was so thrilled to hear about his move to Spain! He shared on The Tonight Show that his wife, Alejandra Silva, who’s from Galicia, encouraged him to spend some time there – about seven years, actually – and they’re planning to live in Madrid. It’s wonderful to see him so happy! He’s really excited about what this move will mean for their sons, Alexander and James. He mentioned they’re already bilingual, and he believes they’ll truly thrive being immersed in the culture. It’s lovely to know his adult son, Homer, is supportive too. He recently told Elle España that they’re happier than ever, and honestly, you can just feel that momentum and joy radiating from the whole family. It’s just heartwarming to see!

Singer Christina Milian and her family have officially made Paris their home. Married to French singer Matt Pokora for over seven years, the couple previously spent six months of each year commuting between the U.S. and France. They decided to fully relocate so their children – Violet (from a previous marriage to The-Dream), and sons Isaiah and Kenna (with Pokora) – could attend school in France. Milian feels it’s a wonderful opportunity for them to learn the language and experience a new culture. The family seems to be thriving in Paris; Milian notes her children are happy, she enjoys an active lifestyle, and she’s able to balance work with family life by working ahead of schedule. She describes their life there as ‘magnifique’ and a ‘nice, healthy balance’.

I’ve been so frustrated seeing all the speculation about why Lindsay left Los Angeles, so I was really glad to hear her finally explain things. She talked about how, back in the early 2000s, all the attention from the paparazzi and the constant rumors ended up overshadowing her actual work, which she found incredibly annoying. She wished people had focused on her movies and career instead! That’s actually a big reason why she felt the need to step away – she knew the media would always create a story, even if it meant ignoring everything she wanted to be known for. It’s amazing to me that she didn’t just take a break, but really reinvented her life, moving first to London, then Dubai, and even opening beach clubs in Greece. It wasn’t just about escaping the spotlight, it was about taking control and building a life on her own terms.
Lindsay Lohan wondered if she’d ever find love, admitting she worried it might never happen. She realized that taking time to focus on herself was key to opening up possibilities and allowing her to pursue things she truly wanted.
She eventually found love with Bader Shammas, marrying in 2022 and welcoming their son, Luai, in 2023.
Though they currently live in Dubai, Lindsay hasn’t left acting behind, appearing in films like Our Little Secret, Irish Wish, and Freakier Friday.

Josh decided to leave Hollywood after some careful thought. He explained to People magazine in July 2024 that Hollywood isn’t just a location, but a whole way of life. He wanted to avoid being surrounded by people constantly focused on the movie industry, feeling it would limit his perspective.
He was looking for a richer life, telling the magazine he always wanted to be around people with diverse interests that would challenge him and encourage personal growth – what he called “the spice of life.”
So, Josh, along with his wife Tamsin Egerton and their four children, moved to the countryside in Hampshire, England. He told The Guardian in July 2024 that time flies with a big family, and while life might seem simpler, he’s focusing on what truly matters. Despite the move, Josh has continued to act, appearing in films like Verity, Fight or Flight, and Trap.

If you don’t follow Jesse on social media, you might be surprised to learn he no longer lives in Los Angeles. In a February 2025 interview with CBS News Sunday Morning, the A Real Pain star revealed he’s lived in Indiana for the past ten years, finding it a more comfortable and stable environment. Despite being an Oscar nominee, Jesse lives a relatively normal life with his wife, Anna Strout, and son, Banner. He explained that he avoids social media and doesn’t spend much time networking within the industry, which helps him maintain a sense of separation from the often-unstable world of filmmaking. His wife is a teacher, and his son isn’t even much of a movie fan, further grounding him in a more everyday life.

Eliza Dushku, known for her roles in shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the movie Bring It On, announced in September 2024 that she’s now a certified psychedelic-assisted therapist and is continuing her education in the field of mental health.
She explained to Boston Magazine that she was able to change her life’s path to focus on her own well-being, with the goal of then helping others. She felt it was important to share the positive changes she’d experienced – the peace and renewed passion she felt – because she now clearly understood her true purpose in life.

The actress best known for playing Wilma Flintstone shared that she relocated to Ireland in January 2025 with her son, Clay, and is working to become an Irish citizen because of her family’s heritage. While she mentioned current political events as a factor in her decision to move, she hasn’t dismissed the possibility of returning to her home country in the future.
She shared on TikTok that she misses her children and friends, and many aspects of her life back home. She’s currently working on building a new life in her current country, and says her family will think about returning to America when it’s safe and everyone there has equal rights.

Actress Evangeline Lilly, known for her role in Ant-Man and the Wasp, has said she’s stepping away from acting for an unspecified amount of time after two decades in the business.
Oh my gosh, you guys, I was living when I saw Evangeline’s Instagram post back in June! She said she was just overflowing with happiness because she’s finally doing what she’s meant to do. It’s like, she’s so thankful for everything, and she admitted it was scary to walk away from all the money and fame people expect you to chase. But she said finding her true purpose—her ‘dharma,’ which is just so her—completely replaced that fear with real, genuine happiness. I seriously get chills thinking about it! It’s so inspiring!
However, she’s not ruling out a return to Hollywood completely, saying, “I could see myself going back someday, but right now, I’m happy where I am.”

Since finishing his role in the 2019 Netflix series V-Wars, the actor best known from The Vampire Diaries has been focusing on a personal mission: fighting climate change by working to improve soil health around the world.
Okay, so Ian Somerhalder… honestly, he’s just amazing. He took a step back from acting – can you believe it, over four years ago?! – but it wasn’t just leaving acting, you know? It was to focus on his family, his kids with Nikki Reed, and to get these incredible documentaries out into the world. He poured his heart into Kiss the Ground, which came out in 2020, and then followed it up with Common Ground. Both are all about how important regenerative farming is, and honestly, once you learn about it through his films, you can’t unsee it. He’s not just an actor, he’s a total advocate!
Looking ahead, the actor said he envisions himself as a rancher, focused on building lasting brands – like his bourbon and health company. He’s deeply committed to sustainable farming and healthy soil practices, values he and his family prioritize. He explained this is his long-term goal, and it’s the reason he’s so passionate about these issues – it’s simply who he is and who he’s becoming.

During a February 2021 episode of her podcast, Empty Inside, former iCarly star Jennette McCurdy shared with guest Anna Faris that she had quit acting a few years prior. She’s now pursuing writing and directing, alongside hosting the podcast.
Jennette recently shared that she regrets many of the acting roles she took earlier in her career, detailing these feelings in her 2022 memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died. She explained that she often feels dissatisfied with the work she did, describing it as cheesy and embarrassing. Having been on shows from age 13 to 21, she was already self-conscious about her career by age 15, feeling it wasn’t something to be proud of with her friends.
Despite her previous experiences, she hasn’t ruled out returning to acting. She explained to TopMob News in October 2022 that writing her book helped her consider acting in a new light, free from past pressures. She believes she might be open to it again if she were to write a role specifically for herself – that could be the only way she’d consider it.

It seemed like a pretty easy decision. The chance to marry Prince Harry, focus on the charities we care about, and even wear the Queen’s tiaras would make leaving Hollywood totally worth it.
Similar to Grace Kelly’s transition from Hollywood to Monaco, Meghan Markle left her life and acting career in Toronto—including her popular role on the show Suits—to join the British Royal Family. Now that she and Prince Harry have stepped down as senior royals and live in California, Meghan is returning to professional life. This includes a multi-year deal with Netflix, where she released the 2022 docuseries Harry & Meghan and will launch a lifestyle show called With Love, Meghan in 2025. She has also started a podcast and launched her brand, As Ever.

I’ve been a huge fan of this actress ever since she first appeared in The Mask back in 1994. She’s made over 40 films since then, and honestly, by the time she finished Annie in 2014, she really deserved a good rest! It felt like she hadn’t stopped working for years.
Honestly, I completely get it! She was just telling Gwyneth how she realized she needed a change, a real act of self-care. She said she’d been working so hard for so long, just constantly making movies, and it’s exhausting! She explained that when you’re filming, it’s the perfect excuse for them to take over your life. Like, twelve-hour days, months on end… you literally have no time for anything but the movie. It’s like she finally realized she needed to prioritize herself after all that. I totally understand wanting to escape that!
Cameron Diaz had many interests she wanted to pursue, including writing – she’d already had success with best-selling books like The Body Book (2013) and The Longevity Book (2016) – and starting a family with her husband, Benji Madden. Although she told InStyle in 2019 that she didn’t miss acting and was focused on wellness, it seemed she might be open to returning for at least one more project.
Jamie Foxx explained to TopMob News how they convinced Cameron Diaz to star in the 2025 Netflix movie Back in Action. He said they practically pleaded with her, getting down on their knees to ask her to do it just one more time. “We love her and have been waiting for her to return, and this is going to be amazing,” he added.

I was a huge fan of Terrence Howard on Empire, and honestly, I was shocked when he said he was finished with acting after five seasons! When Extra asked him about what was next before the final season aired in 2019, he was so firm, saying he’d had enough of pretending and was truly done with the profession. It was a real surprise to hear him say that.
Despite appearing in a few projects since then, the Academy Award nominee announced his intention to retire from acting again in 2022 while promoting his Peacock series, The Best Man: The Final Chapters. He explained to ET that he felt he’d given his all as an actor and now wants to focus on watching and supporting new talent, rather than simply repeating performances he’s done before.
Even with those past issues, Howard has continued to act, appearing in shows like Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist and the Netflix movie Shirley. He also has several other projects planned for the future.

After his character, King Joffrey, died on the show in 2014, Jack Gleeson, who was 21 at the time, decided to stop acting. He told EW that he’d been acting since he was a child, but simply wasn’t enjoying it as much anymore.
Jack isn’t a child star anymore, and some of the excitement has faded. He explained that turning a hobby into a job changes things. “Before, it was just something fun to do with friends, or during the summer,” he said. “I still like it, but making a living from something alters how you feel about it. It’s not that I dislike it, I just don’t want it to be my career.”
After taking six years off, Jack returned to acting in 2020 with a role in the BBC series Out of Her Mind. Since then, he’s also been in films like Rebecca’s Boyfriend and In the Land of Saints and Sinners, and TV shows including Safe Harbor and The Famous Five.

When Jennifer Aniston, known for her role in Fast Times at Ridgemont High, married actor Kevin Kline in 1989, they made a plan to balance their careers with raising their two children, Owen and Greta. Kline explained to Playboy that they would alternate work schedules so they wouldn’t both be working at the same time. Greta is now a singer who performs as Frankie Cosmos.
He added that Phoebe has consistently prioritized staying home with her children whenever she was scheduled to work. While she briefly appeared in her friend Jennifer Jason Leigh’s 2001 independent film, The Anniversary Party, Cates mainly focuses on running her boutique, Blue Tree, in New York City.

You know, back when I was following celebrity trends in the ’80s, Harold Ramis was a huge star with films like Ghostbusters and Honey, I Shrunk the Kids. But he made a really personal decision to step back from acting and directing after a heartbreaking loss – his wife passed away from breast cancer in 1991. He prioritized his family, wanting to be there for his children, Rachel and Mitchell, which I always admired. It’s a reminder that what truly matters isn’t always the spotlight, but the people we love.
Despite not appearing in a live-action movie since 1997 – he even turned down a small role in the 2016 Ghostbusters remake – Rick remains a beloved figure, as shown by the strong reaction to news of an assault he experienced while walking in New York City in 2020. Fortunately, fans will soon be able to see him again alongside Josh Gad in the upcoming Disney reboot, Shrunk.

After marrying fashion designer Adam Kimmel in 2010, actress Drew Barrymore suggested she was considering stepping back from acting. She told Vogue that most acting roles require a lot of intimate scenes, and she wasn’t interested in that. She explained that taking on such roles felt risky, and while her marriage was solid, she needed a truly exceptional project to justify it.
After her son, Martin, joined his sister, Louisanna, in 2014, she firmly decided to step away from acting. She told Us Weekly in 2016 that she felt like an outsider and was now focused on being a mom. She explained that she primarily helps her husband, Kimmel, with his work and enjoys painting as a hobby. Ultimately, she said, her children were the main reason she stopped pursuing acting roles.

She’d built a successful career with roles in popular shows like Ally McBeal, Nip/Tuck, Arrested Development, and Scandal. After all that, the Australian actress started to feel like it was time for a change.
Turning 45, she felt like it was time to try something completely new and challenging. As she explained on her wife Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show in 2018, she had a good idea of what her acting career would look like for the next couple of decades, so she decided to leave acting and start her own business instead.
Her company, General Public, which creates art for everyone, was almost complete – she just needed to finish one final piece.
I spoke with Mitch Hurwitz, the creator of Arrested Development, and let him know that if they made a fifth season, I wouldn’t be participating because I had decided to stop acting. He was very understanding and supportive, and we had a good talk. Surprisingly, he ended up writing me into five episodes anyway.

It’s understandable why, after winning three Oscars, an actor might consider what else there is to achieve. Following his sixth Academy Award nomination for his 2017 film, Phantom Thread, the actor announced through his representative that he was retiring from acting. The statement expressed his deep gratitude to everyone he’d worked with and to his audiences over the years, and clarified that this was a personal decision, with no further comments to be made.
Just as Daniel Day-Lewis had announced his retirement from acting, a new project drew him back in. In October 2024, Focus Features revealed he would star in Anemone, a film he co-wrote with his son, Ronan Day-Lewis, who is also directing it.

After finding fame on Good Luck Charlie, she decided to focus on her education in 2018. She went on to earn both a master’s degree and a PhD from MIT, and later attended Harvard Law School.
On top of everything else, Bridgit started her own company, Northwood Space, in February 2023. The company is building ground stations to facilitate communication with satellites, and Bridgit is serving as its CEO.
