The One Piece manga has been running for over 28 years, and the story is still unfolding. Currently, the series is revealing important backstory details in the Elbaph Arc, but the main conflict is about to begin. Fans have been anticipating this arc for over 25 years, ever since it was first hinted at in the Little Garden Arc, and now they’re finally seeing the incredible world of the Giants. The anime is nearing the end of the Egghead Incident arc. Since entering the Final Saga, creator Eiichiro Oda has consistently surprised readers with unexpected plot developments. It’s remarkable how Oda has carefully built this story over nearly three decades, and the connections between events are becoming increasingly clear.
The latest volume (Volume 113) of One Piece came out on November 4, 2025, featuring a stunning illustration of Nico Robin, the crew’s archaeologist. The volume also includes a mysterious message from the author, Eiichiro Oda, which many fans believe hints at the story of Sanji, the crew’s chef and a potential future Pirate King. Because the volume is currently only available in Japan, translator DawnStussy (@DawnStussy on X) shared an English translation of Oda’s note. While it doesn’t explicitly mention Sanji, the connection seems clear.
One Piece’s Sanji Is More Crucial to the Story Than Fans Realize

The translator shared a note from Volume 113 explaining that Earth’s rotation is slowing down. Apparently, a day used to be 23 hours long, but now it takes 24. The note jokingly sympathizes with manga artists from around 180 million years ago and then announces the start of Volume 113!
The message seems normal at first, but Oda’s references to the Earth’s rotation and ancient history feel deliberate. Fans have also long been fascinated by Sanji’s eyebrow – not just its unusual design, but also a comment Oda made about it way back in 1999 in Volume 7’s SBS section.
Someone asked the creator of the series about Sanji’s unusual eyebrows, and they responded with a bit of a tangent! They explained that everything moves in circles – the sun, the moon, and the earth all spin! Then they jokingly wondered what would happen if the Earth suddenly stopped spinning.
Oda explained that the planet would be devastated by massive tidal waves! He then pointed out that Sanji’s eyebrow also uses that same strong, swirling energy. He concluded by saying, ‘Keep that in mind – you’re dismissed!’
Sanji’s Character Has More Depth Than You Might Think

Sanji has always been a fan favorite, and the Whole Cake Island arc really fleshed out his personality and history. He’s arguably one of the best-developed characters in the series, which is why the author chose to share more of his past before the story’s final act. Following his power-up in the Wano Country arc, there was even a subtle change in the way his eyebrows curl. After unlocking his hidden potential, Sanji managed to defeat a very powerful member of the Beast Pirates.
Fans have speculated about a recent development in the story, but the series hasn’t officially explained it yet. However, the latest comments suggest the creator, Oda, is building towards something significant, likely for the story’s final arc, where the mysteries of the world will finally be unveiled. Oda often highlights Sanji’s role, and it’s clear he has big plans for the character as the story nears its end. This is especially true considering Sanji’s lifelong dream of discovering the All Blue is a central element of the overall narrative.
The story hasn’t yet delved into the legendary sea where all four of the world’s oceans converge – a place said to hold every type of marine life and be a dream location for cooks. Though often considered a myth tied to a long-forgotten past, Vegapunk’s recent broadcast suggests the story is about to shift dramatically, with the crew’s chef playing a key role. An enormous global conflict is brewing, and the Straw Hat Pirates will undoubtedly fight alongside Luffy against those who seek to control and oppress others.
