7 Superheroes That Could Beat Goku, Ranked By How Badly They’d Beat Him

Son Goku, the main character in the Dragon Ball series, is a hugely popular and iconic figure in both anime and Japanese culture. As a Saiyan, an alien race of warriors, Goku is incredibly skilled in martial arts and can harness his inner energy, called Ki, to perform amazing attacks. He’s well-known for achieving even greater levels of power, which dramatically increase his strength and even change his appearance. Despite being able to fight world-ending enemies, Goku would likely be defeated by some of the most powerful heroes from DC and Marvel Comics.

Goku is incredibly powerful, capable of immense destruction, but he’s not unbeatable. Heroes from DC and Marvel have weaknesses they could use against him, as Goku’s strength, speed, and energy aren’t limitless. He’s never faced opponents with truly unlimited power or those who can manipulate reality itself, and he wouldn’t be able to withstand such attacks. These heroes possess abilities that far exceed Goku’s and would likely defeat him in a fight.

7) Silver Surfer

Goku’s strength comes from Ki, an energy that exists in all living beings. However, Silver Surfer can absorb and control any kind of energy, including Ki. This means Silver Surfer could easily deflect, absorb, or even bounce back Goku’s attacks. Powered by the incredibly vast Power Cosmic, Silver Surfer’s abilities are almost god-like, rivaling even the powerful being known as Eternity. He can also control time and matter, become intangible, and has a cosmic awareness that gives him a huge advantage. Silver Surfer could even drain Goku of his Ki entirely – he once absorbed all the dangerous gamma radiation from the Hulk! Because Goku depends so heavily on Ki, he’d be at a major disadvantage in a fight against Silver Surfer.

Goku and Wally West are both incredibly fast, but Wally has a significant advantage thanks to his control over the Speed Force. Wally has reached speeds that could destroy the entire multiverse and has even escaped death itself. While Goku’s Ultra Instinct allows him to automatically dodge or block attacks, it doesn’t last long and uses a lot of energy. Wally, however, can maintain similar speeds for extended periods. He also has the ability to move into other dimensions, steal Goku’s speed to become even faster, and even travel through time. Despite Goku’s impressive speed and ability to adapt, he ultimately can’t match the sheer power and endurance of the Fastest Man Alive.

I’ve been thinking about a fight between Goku and Scarlet Witch, and while Goku is undoubtedly the stronger, more physically powerful fighter, I think Scarlet Witch would actually win. Her Chaos Magic is unlike anything Goku has ever faced. He’s battled incredibly strong opponents, but usually ones he can overpower. Scarlet Witch doesn’t rely on strength; she bends reality itself. It’s a chaotic power, and takes a toll on her, but she’s demonstrated what she’s capable of – she’s literally rewritten the universe, wiped out entire populations, and almost unmade existence! Goku’s amazing strength and speed wouldn’t matter against that. She could just erase him from reality, and it wouldn’t even be a contest of power.

4) Zatanna

Zatanna is a powerful sorceress on par with Scarlet Witch, but she’s more composed and masterful with her magic, making her a formidable opponent for Goku. He’s never encountered anyone with this level of magical ability, and Zatanna’s spells – which can manipulate reality itself – could counter anything Goku throws at her. She can stop time, control minds, strip away powers, change matter, and even erase people from existence. Essentially, Zatanna’s power has no limits beyond her own imagination and willpower. She’s consistently defeated incredibly powerful beings capable of destroying entire universes. Her diverse abilities and nearly limitless magic would likely overcome even Goku’s strongest transformations.

3) Jean Grey

Goku is a remarkably powerful fighter, even capable of battling gods. However, Jean Grey is linked to the Phoenix Force, a being with virtually unlimited power over all realities. While the gods in Dragon Ball, including Goku, are incredibly strong, they do have limitations. Jean, through the Phoenix Force, possesses a seemingly endless capacity for destruction and has defeated incredibly powerful foes like Necron, who threatened infinite universes. Furthermore, Goku struggles against attacks that target the mind or soul. Jean is both a powerful telepath and capable of destroying souls. Even if Goku were to destroy Jean’s physical body, the Phoenix Force would simply revive her, leading to a continuing battle that Jean would ultimately win.

2) Superman

The debate over who would win in a fight – Goku or Superman – has raged for years among fans. However, Superman’s power and accomplishments far exceed anything Goku has demonstrated. While Goku constantly pushes his own boundaries, Superman operates on a truly limitless scale. He’s performed incredible feats like holding a black hole, lifting an infinitely heavy object, and surviving complete erasure. Although Superman has weaknesses like Kryptonite, Goku’s honor and desire for a fair fight mean he wouldn’t exploit them. Ultimately, despite Goku’s strength, he simply can’t match the infinite power Superman possesses.

1) Doctor Manhattan

Doctor Manhattan, originally Jon Osterman from the Watchmen comic series, gained incredible, god-like powers after a laboratory accident. He’s nearly all-powerful and all-knowing, able to change reality, see the future, control energy, become invisible, teleport, and even create duplicates – powers that are far beyond human understanding. Even a powerful attack like Goku’s strongest blast wouldn’t harm him; Doctor Manhattan would simply regenerate. He’s easily reshaped the entire DC Multiverse and has defeated almost all of DC’s heroes at once. In a fight against Goku, Doctor Manhattan would almost certainly win, likely turning him to ash instantly.
