The new PvPvE extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, is facing player backlash over the price of its cosmetic skins. Although the game is already a $40 purchase, some skins cost as much as $24, leading to complaints on the game’s subreddit, as reported by PCGamer.
Players have criticized Embark Studios over the pricing and originality of some of the game’s purchasable skins. One player pointed out that some skins, costing $20, are very similar to free cosmetics already available, simply swapping out a head or chest piece. They described the prices as unreasonable and the designs as uninspired.
Players have noticed that a recently released outfit from Embark Studios, called the Leviathan set (priced at $16), closely resembles the Renegade Moon set. The similarity involves certain elements of the outfit’s design.
Someone posted a similar thought online, and people responded with comments like ‘if you don’t like it, just don’t buy it.’ The original poster found this frustrating, questioning how anyone could dismiss spending $25 on cosmetic items for a $40 game as unimportant.
Another player criticized Embark Studios’ ARC Raiders for being a full-price game that also includes microtransactions. They were particularly unhappy with the battle pass, noting that it contains items which impact gameplay, and that the prices for cosmetic items were very high. They wrote, “Those skin prices are kinda… brutal. And to add to that we still have gameplay affecting items in the battlepass, in a $40 game.”
Not only has ARC Raiders received positive reviews, but it’s also proven to be a hit with gamers. According to data from Alinea Analytics, the game sold 2.5 million copies on PC and consoles in its first week. While Embark Studios hasn’t released official sales figures, Alinea estimates the game has already earned over $100 million, with PC players contributing the most revenue.
