To celebrate its 35th anniversary, the popular manga series Baki The Grappler is giving fans a behind-the-scenes look with an interview from a key member of its creative team. Yuki Yokoi, a manager at publisher Akita Shoten, spoke with egmr.ru about the series’ lasting success and the character of Baki Hanma. The conversation also touched on potential anime crossovers, and Yokoi revealed they are already considering ideas for Baki’s next animated team-up, following the previous Netflix release Baki Hanma Vs. Kengan Ashura.
In a recent conversation, Yokoi, the editor of Baki The Grappler and manager at Akita Shoten, expressed his desire for a crossover between the Baki and Garouden franchises, both Netflix anime series. He explained that the creator of Kengan Ashura, Yabako Sandrovich, is a fan of Baki, and he has a close working relationship with Sho Kobayashi, the editor of Kengan Ashura. This connection led to their recent collaboration, and Yokoi hopes for similar partnerships in the future, provided the series have a natural fit and a strong creative link. As a fan, he particularly envisions a crossover with Garouden, as its manga adaptation was illustrated by Itagaki-sensei, the artist behind Baki. He emphasized this is simply a personal wish.
The Story of Garouden

Although the latest anime adaptation of Garouden: The Way of The Lone Wolf premiered on Netflix last year, the series actually has a long history. It began with creator Baku Yumemakura in 1985 and continues to be developed today. The anime consists of eight episodes and follows Juzo Fujimaki, who is forced to compete in a dangerous martial arts tournament to escape his past. While a second season hasn’t been announced, there’s a wealth of source material from the original manga that could be used for future episodes.
In our conversation, Yokoi suggested that more Baki Hanma anime could be on the way. While Baki-Dou is scheduled for release next year, the team is exploring other possibilities. He said they’re considering various projects and want to deliver something that fans will enjoy. Since Baki-Dou doesn’t conclude the Baki The Grappler manga, and the series is so popular, it’s likely Netflix will consider continuing the anime beyond this season.
