The Avengers and X-Men Need to Trade These Two Marvel Characters Permanently (It Would Work)

The Avengers and the X-Men haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, frequently clashing due to the Avengers’ tendency to support policies that harm mutants, something the X-Men strongly object to. Despite these disagreements, members have moved between the two teams for decades, starting with Beast joining the Avengers in the 1970s, followed by others like Wolverine and Storm. While team membership has shifted over time—Storm is currently the only mutant Avenger—it’s time for a permanent exchange: each team should permanently trade two of its members.

Firestar has been a member of several famous teams, starting with the New Warriors in the 1990s and later joining the Avengers. She’s also been an X-Man on multiple occasions, most recently appearing with the West Coast Avengers. Many fans believe Beast would thrive as a permanent member of the Avengers, as his previous time with the team created a particularly beloved version of his character. A swap between Firestar and Beast could benefit both the Avengers and the X-Men, as each character seems better suited to the other team’s environment.

Firestar & Beast Would Work Much Better on the Other Team

Firestar was originally intended to be part of a new team of heroes, but she and Justice were the only ones who eventually joined the Avengers. While she contributed well to the team, her appearances became less frequent, and by the 2000s, she had largely faded from view. She later became a member of the X-Men in the 2010s, briefly returning during the final stages of the Krakoa era. However, she didn’t get much focus during that time, as the recent X-Men comics didn’t develop its characters very well. She recently appeared in the latest West Coast Avengers series, but that comic was unsuccessful, leaving her future uncertain.

As a longtime comic and movie fan, I’ve always felt Firestar deserved better. She’s never quite been a top-tier hero, and I think it’s time to really explore her potential. What’s cool is she’s almost a fresh start – a character readers can really connect with. She never truly got to stand out as an X-Man, which opens up so many possibilities. Maybe she’s got something to prove, constantly striving to show what she’s capable of, or perhaps she’s just searching for a team that feels like family. With her fire powers, she’d fit right into any of the current X-Men lineups. I can easily see her working with Cyclops again in a new X-Men story, or taking on a mentor role with new recruits in Exceptional, or even finding a sense of belonging in Uncanny. There’s just so much story potential there!

Beast is desperate to escape a past filled with questionable choices. His time with the X-Men has earned him a bad name, as he consistently pushes himself to do terrible things to safeguard mutants. He lacks strong personal connections within the team, often operating without close support. Ultimately, his dedication to protecting others consistently takes a heavy toll on him.

Looking at Beast’s time with the Avengers, it’s a completely different story. He’s the cheerful, optimistic hero that fans adore. Surrounded by his best friend, Wonder Man, and other supportive heroes, he doesn’t feel the pressure of being the sole scientist focused on mutant survival. People appreciate him for who he is, not just what he does. During the Krakoa era, Beast became villainous, and the solution was to bring back the version of him who was part of the Avengers. Marvel essentially acknowledged he was better suited to that team, and a return would benefit everyone – especially the fans.

The Trades Would Make Both Characters Better

Switching these two characters would really benefit both of them. Firestar would be a much better fit with the X-Men than with her current team. She hasn’t received the kind of power training other mutants get, and being with the X-Men could give her the visibility she enjoyed when she was on Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. She’s always had the potential to be a true mutant hero, and she deserves the opportunity to finally explore that.

Beast often seems unhappy as an X-Man. He feels isolated from his teammates, and everyone relies on him to fix every scientific issue involving mutants, which puts a lot of unnecessary stress on him. He deserves to be around close friends, and joining the Avengers would be a better fit for both his well-being and what fans want to see. A swap would actually benefit both teams.
