Throughout the month, Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump has ended several series, but is now introducing a new romance story. This year, the magazine has cancelled ten popular titles, and a few others have naturally finished their runs. With more series wrapping up soon, Shonen Jump is looking to launch new stories, hoping to find the next big fan favorite.
After canceling two series – Ping-Pong Peril and Ekiden Bros – Shonen Jump is introducing a new one called Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits by Matsuri Hatsubina. Shueisha has given fans a first look at the series, which will debut in the next issue of the magazine. It appears to be a heartwarming, everyday story with the potential to become a romance, and it stands out as a promising addition to the lineup.
What Is Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits?

Matsuri Hastubina’s Hero Girl and Demon Lord Call It Quits is a new series from Viz Media about two enemies who are over fighting to save the world. They decide to give up their roles and try to live normal lives! While the premise of powerful beings seeking normalcy has appeared in other light novels and anime, it’s a fresh approach for Shonen Jump. It stands out from the other titles currently offered.
I’ve been watching Shonen Jump closely, and while everyone’s talking about the big action series like Ichi the Witch and Kagurabachi, it’s the quieter titles that are really surprising me. Series like Hima-Ten by Genki Ono, RuriDragon by Masaoki Shindo, and Someone Hertz by Ei Yamano are gaining a lot of popularity, even though they don’t rely on huge action scenes every week. It makes me wonder if this could be a new direction for Shonen Jump – a focus on more subtle, character-driven stories.
What’s Going on With Shonen Jump Right Now?
2024 and 2025 have been years of big changes for Shonen Jump. The magazine said goodbye to several popular, long-running series, including My Hero Academia, Jujutsu Kaisen, Undead Unluck, and Mission: Yozakura Family. Plus, other hits like Sakamoto Days and The Elusive Samurai are also nearing their conclusions.
Beyond these examples, other popular series that started in the early 2020s, like Blue Box and Witch Watch, are also nearing the end of their stories, with significant events happening recently. As these series conclude, we can expect a wave of new releases aiming to fill the void and capture audiences.
