Beloved Sci-Fi TV Remake Just Started Streaming Free (And Fans Still Believe It Should Have Had More Than Two Seasons)

Good news for fans of the sci-fi series that was canceled after just two seasons: you can now watch all of it for free! Streaming services have been adding a lot of new content this November, and science fiction is a big part of that. Many sci-fi shows and movies have become available this month, with more on the way, so now’s a great time to revisit a beloved show that ended prematurely.

Both seasons of the sci-fi series V are now available on Tubi, starting November 3rd. This V is a reimagining of the classic 1980s miniseries created by Kenneth Johnson. The show follows the arrival of the Visitors, a technologically advanced alien race who initially appear to come in peace. But it doesn’t take long to realize they might have hidden, dangerous motives.

V Was Canceled Too Soon

The sci-fi series V only lasted for two seasons, airing 22 episodes between 2009 and 2011, before ABC canceled it – a decision many fans felt was premature. The cancellation was likely due to falling ratings and the show’s expensive production. Disappointed fans launched “Project Alice,” a letter-writing campaign to try and save the series. The cancellation remains frustrating for sci-fi fans, not just because the second season ended on several cliffhangers, but because V was a genuinely good show.

The new series kept the basic idea of the original – aliens invading Earth to take control – but updated the story with current issues. The original show used the alien invasion as a way to talk about fascism, World War II, and the Cold War. The remake, however, focused on contemporary concerns like terrorism and the fears after 9/11, using conspiracy theories as a major part of the plot. This made the show feel timely and built towards a final plan by the aliens to conquer Earth and use humans for their own needs, but unfortunately, the series was canceled before that story could be fully shown.

As a huge fan, I was completely hooked by this show! The storyline was gripping, but what really stood out were the performances, especially from Morena Baccarin and Erica Evans. Their characters – an alien queen protecting her offspring and a human mom doing the same – created such a powerful, central conflict. Honestly, every episode left me on the edge of my seat, which made the cancellation feel totally unfair. It really deserved to keep going!

What’s New on Tubi?

Tubi isn’t just adding ‘V’ this month! November’s new arrivals also include the series ’61st Street’, ‘Dead & Buried’, and both the original 1970s version of ‘The Roots’ and its 2016 remake. For movie fans, Tubi now has popular titles like ‘Black Hawk Down’, ‘Carrie’, ‘Dreamgirls’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Maid in Manhattan’, and ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop’.
