A version of Captain America secretly replaced by a fascist operative took over S.H.I.E.L.D. and merged it with Hydra. When that imposter was defeated, both Hydra and the remains of S.H.I.E.L.D. were dismantled. However, Maria Hill, while working at the CIA, secretly used agency funds to rebuild a smaller version of S.H.I.E.L.D. to monitor individuals with superpowers.

Marvel seems to be developing a more confrontational version of S.H.I.E.L.D., and Nick Fury’s new team is at the center of it. While they’ll be working alongside Captain America in Latveria, recent details suggest their priorities have shifted. They’re now focused on securing a secret weapons stockpile, even if it means opposing Captain America. Given that this storyline is described as a crucial part of the lead-up to next year’s major Armageddon event, it raises questions about S.H.I.E.L.D.’s motives and how these weapons fit into the larger picture.

It’s no surprise that S.H.I.E.L.D. operates secretly and with questionable goals. However, their sudden reappearance is suspicious, especially with Latveria in chaos and valuable weapons at stake.
