Dave Bautista, who was cast as the villain in the upcoming Highlander reboot a decade ago, recently told MovieWeb that the film has faced several delays. He explained he doesn’t know the specifics of the problems, but confirmed the project changed studios, which has put everything on hold and created uncertainty about its future.
Dave Bautista will be playing Kugan, the villain originally portrayed by Clancy Brown in the 1986 film Highlander. Henry Cavill is set to play Connor MacLeod, a role Christopher Lambert famously held in the original movie. However, the film, directed by Chad Stahelski (John Wick), has been postponed due to an injury Henry Cavill sustained during training. Bautista explained that Cavill was training intensely, like a professional athlete, and injuries are common in that situation. He added that Cavill is now focused on recovery so he can resume filming, just like any dedicated athlete would.
Henry Cavill Needs Highlander to Succeed to Land Back on His Feet
Henry Cavill has faced some setbacks recently. He was well-known for playing Superman in the DC Universe and leading the Netflix series The Witcher. However, after leaving The Witcher and then being let go by the new DC Universe leadership, he found himself without a major role. The upcoming Highlander project could potentially change that.
According to Bautista, Henry Cavill is incredibly dedicated to preparing for the potential Highlander movie. Bautista, a former WWE wrestler, notes that Cavill isn’t just training like an athlete, he looks like one too. While this is great, Bautista worries that if the movie doesn’t get made soon, all that effort might be for nothing.
Amazon Studios is developing Highlander, a property with the potential to become as popular as The Witcher. This could be a great opportunity for Henry Cavill to revitalize his career after a relatively quiet period. There’s also speculation that James Gunn might have a role for him in the new DC Universe, or even that Marvel could find a project for him. Ultimately, if Henry Cavill stays healthy, he’s well-positioned to get his career back on track.
