After a successful seven seasons, Malcolm in the Middle ended in 2006, becoming known as a groundbreaking and impactful comedy. The show was different from most sitcoms at the time, using a single-camera setup, having a narrator who spoke directly to the audience, and honestly portraying the messy lives of a typical, working-class family. Fans have wanted a continuation of the series for years, eager to find out what happened to Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), his brothers, and their parents. Now, that wish is coming true! Disney+ is currently working on a four-episode revival called Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair. Originally planned for a 2026 release, it now looks like fans won’t have to wait until the very end of the year to see the family back on screen.
A revival of Malcolm in the Middle is now slated to debut on Disney+ in spring 2026, likely between late March and June, according to Variety. The show will be a four-episode miniseries focusing on Malcolm and his daughter reconnecting with his family as they celebrate his parents, Hal and Lois (played by Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek), reaching their 40th wedding anniversary. While planned as a limited series, the cast seems eager to return, hinting that a successful launch could lead to additional episodes.
Not Everyone Is Back for the Malcolm in the Middle Revival

Fans are thrilled about the upcoming revival because most of the original Wilkerson family cast is returning. Frank Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Justin Kaczmarek will be back as the core family members. They’ll be joined by Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield, who will once again play Francis and Reese, the older brothers. Bryan Cranston has been pushing for a revival for over ten years and was delighted to revisit his character, Hal. He described playing Hal as rewarding, saying he’d missed the character and loved being reunited with the cast. Frank Muniz also loved the experience, calling it “incredible” and like a dream come true.
One familiar face won’t be in the new season: Erik Per Sullivan, who played Dewey, the youngest brother. He stopped acting in 2010 to focus on his studies and personal life. Bryan Cranston shared on a podcast that he spoke with Sullivan, who is now pursuing a master’s degree at Harvard and didn’t want to return to acting, but was happy about the revival. Instead of removing the character of Dewey, the role has been given to a new actor, Caleb Ellsworth-Clark. The roles of Jamie and Kelly have also been recast with Anthony Timpano and Vaughan Murrae, respectively. Representing the next generation is Keeley Karsten, who will play Malcolm’s daughter, Leah.
