Prince William and Kate Middleton don’t leave their kids in the dark even when the truth gets heavy.
Over a year after Princess Kate revealed her cancer diagnosis, Prince William shared how they talked to their children – Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 – about it. He explained that they made a point of communicating with their kids more openly.
During a recent interview with Brazilian TV host Luciano Huck, William acknowledged that sharing his life publicly has both positive and negative aspects. He admitted that he sometimes worries about revealing too much to his children.
However, the royal confessed that trying to keep things secret from their children usually isn’t effective.
Sharing difficult news with their children helped William and Kate prevent them from becoming worried or stressed about uncertain situations.
William continued, explaining that when things are uncertain, it naturally leads to more questions. He pointed out that parenting is all about finding the right balance – knowing how much information to share, what to say, and when. There’s no guidebook for raising children, so you really have to rely on your gut feeling and do the best you can.
Kate shared her cancer diagnosis in March 2024 and had mentioned that she and William tried to keep it private for a while earlier in the year to shield their children.
Kate explained that she and William have been handling the situation privately to protect their children. In a video released last March, she said it took time to explain everything to George, Charlotte, and Louis in a way they could understand, and to make sure they knew she would be alright.

Kate and William, both 43, openly discussed her cancer with their children, and the princess also made sure they understood what her recovery process would involve.
You know, I’ve been really prioritizing my well-being lately, and I’ve found that focusing on things that nurture my mind, body, and spirit is making a huge difference. I’ve been telling everyone I’m feeling better and stronger each day because of it – it’s truly been a powerful approach to healing.
