Madeleine White Reacts to Backlash After Attending Rave With Pink Eye

Madeleine White‘s eyes have been opened to the severity of conjunctivitis.

The influencer responded to criticism after sharing that she went to Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) in Orlando for her 30th birthday despite having pinkeye. She explained her decision after people questioned why she attended such a large event while being contagious.

Despite already sharing a makeup tutorial with her five million followers explaining how she’d cover up a pink patch before attending the event with her husband, Andrew Fedyk, and a large crowd, she responded to criticism on a different social media account.

In a TikTok posted on November 9th, the U.K. resident shared her surprise at how differently conjunctivitis, also known as pink eye, is treated in the US compared to the UK.

Madeleine, who has almost 300,000 followers on her other account, shared a similar thought, writing, “I didn’t even get a day off school for this back then…”

Despite initially sharing her response on a less-used account, the content creator—who became well-known for her story time videos and beauty vlogs—did try to explain her choices to people who questioned her in the comments of her original video.

She replied to a comment about going out with pink eye, saying she’d never heard of being told to stay home with conjunctivitis. She explained that in the UK, people usually just wash their hands, avoid touching their eyes, and carry on with their daily routines.

Okay, so she said she knew not to touch her eyes, especially with what’s going on, but of course, she had to do her makeup anyway! It’s like, she was getting ready for a rave, and honestly? The neon pink eyeliner and mascara were perfect. It was a total cover-up for the infection, which… ugh, still worries me. But she actually said this about her makeup – and I screenshotted it, obviously – she was like, ‘I absolutely cannot give myself pink eye again, so I’m using this today and then it’s getting thrown away.’ It’s so her, you know? A little reckless, but she’s amazing and I just want her to be careful!

As a final touch, she applied face jewels, explaining they served a dual purpose: to accessorize her look and conceal her red, puffy eyes.

She joked that the rhinestones were a lifesaver, then, looking at her reflection, added with a laugh, “Considering I have pink eye in both eyes, I think I’m looking pretty good!”

Even though she knew it wasn’t a good idea to touch her eyes, she needed to put on makeup first. While creating a bright, colorful look for the rave – including neon pink eyeliner and mascara to cover up an eye infection – she decided she’d use the products just for that night and then throw them away, saying, “I can’t risk getting pink eye again.”
