The award-winning HBO drama The Pitt will be available to watch on TNT during the holiday season. Surprisingly, the show’s realistic medical scenes and nudity will remain uncut for television viewers. Premiering in early 2025, The Pitt, starring Noah Wyle, quickly gained popularity with both critics and audiences. Each episode focuses on one hour of a grueling 15-hour shift at a Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. The series was a major upset at the Primetime Emmys, winning Outstanding Drama over popular shows like Severance, Andor, and The Last of Us.
According to Variety, the new series The Pitt will premiere on TNT with three episodes each week, starting December 1, 2025, and continuing through December 29, 2025. TNT will air the episodes without any edits, despite their TV-MA rating for strong medical content. This means viewers will see unedited nudity and realistic medical procedures, though each episode and commercial break will include warnings. TNT explained in a statement that they chose not to edit the series for traditional television to stay true to accurately portraying the challenges of working in an emergency room. They believe the graphic content is essential to showing the emotional impact this work has on medical professionals. John Wells, the show’s executive producer, also commented on the decision.
Everyone at ‘The Pitt’ is thrilled that viewers on TNT will be able to watch our Emmy-winning show starting December 1st. We also appreciate TNT letting the series air exactly as it was originally created and shown on HBO Max.
‘The Pitt’ is Hyping Up Season 2

HBO Max
TNT is free to air the full, unedited version of The Pitt because, as a cable network, it isn’t held to the same content restrictions as traditional broadcast TV. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) doesn’t regulate cable in the same way. While TNT usually edits shows with mature ratings (TV-MA or R) to satisfy advertisers, companies are now happy to advertise during the broadcast of this popular new series without any cuts.
Showing the new season of The Pitt on TNT during the holidays is a clever way to reach a wider audience, especially those who’ve been hearing positive things about the show and its Emmy award. Disney tried something similar in 2022, airing the first episodes of Andor on several of its channels. The idea seems to be to draw people in and get them to watch the new season on HBO Max, where it will premiere on January 8, 2026, just over a week after the final episodes air on TNT.
It will be fascinating to see how well The Pitt performs on traditional TV in terms of viewership. Even though it’s already available on HBO Max, the show’s medical drama format fits nicely with typical linear TV programming, where shows like House M.D. and Grey’s Anatomy continue to attract viewers. It’s also a refreshing change from the usual holiday programming, which could be appealing to people watching TV while traveling during December.
