Tubi Just Added the Best Samuel L. Jackson Movie That People Forget to Talk About

I’ve been a fan of Samuel L. Jackson for years – he’s just always been in great movies! From the early days working with Quentin Tarantino on films like Jackie Brown, all the way up to more recent stuff like The Hateful Eight, he’s become such a recognizable and awesome actor. But you know, not every film he’s in gets the attention it deserves. I recently discovered one of his really good ones from 1996 that I hadn’t seen before, and it’s currently streaming on Tubi for free, which is a great find!

Tubi recently added the action thriller The Long Kiss Goodnight, starring Geena Davis as a teacher with amnesia who hires private detective Mitch Henessey (Jackson) to uncover her past. They soon discover she’s actually a highly skilled government assassin. Written by Shane Black and directed by Renny Harlin, the film didn’t make a big splash when it came out and earned $96 million at the box office on a $65 million budget, but it’s gained a following over time. Many consider it an underappreciated gem.

The Long Kiss Goodnight Is One of Samuel L. Jackson’s Best Movies

Many consider The Long Kiss Goodnight to be one of Samuel L. Jackson’s finest performances, largely because of the unique role he plays. Unlike his typically strong and self-assured characters, like Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction and Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jackson portrays a more relatable and vulnerable man. His character, Mitch, is a quirky detective who grows and changes throughout the film, ultimately becoming a dependable friend. The movie also showcases Jackson’s comedic talent, with Mitch delivering many funny and clever lines thanks to a well-written script and Jackson’s perfect timing, providing a lighter side to the film’s serious plot.

Samuel L. Jackson and Geena Davis had fantastic chemistry in The Long Kiss Goodnight. Their characters’ unexpected pairing and different personalities added depth to the action thriller, making it funny, suspenseful, and surprisingly emotional. While it’s not Jackson’s most critically acclaimed film – it currently has a 67% critic score and 70% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes – he considers it one of his best, and even named his character, Mitch, as a personal favorite.
