If you’ve been waiting for Xbox Cloud Gaming to go live in India, you might be in luck.
Xbox Cloud Gaming lets you play a wide range of games over the internet, without needing to download them. It’s a subscription service that streams games to you from Microsoft’s servers.
Xbox Game Pass offers different levels of cloud gaming depending on your subscription. The basic ‘Essentials’ plan gives you access to a limited number of games with standard access. ‘Premium’ expands the game selection and gives you faster access to the cloud. And with ‘Xbox Game Pass Ultimate’, you get the largest library of games – hundreds of titles – plus higher resolution streaming, better video quality, and access to new games on the day they’re released, like Call of Duty.
The service is officially available in 26 countries right now. However, some major gaming markets, like China, aren’t included yet. There’s a possibility that one of the fastest-growing gaming markets will be added soon.
Microsoft seems to be expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming to servers in India, a country with a rapidly growing gaming market – currently ranking 7th globally in gaming expenditure, according to a discovery by Better XCloud developer RedPhx.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available from data centers in two new locations in India: Pune, Maharashtra, and Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Pune data center is Microsoft’s most modern facility in the area, and they are also growing their data center capacity in South and West India.
Xbox Cloud Gaming has gotten a significant boost with the addition of 1440p resolution and improved streaming quality, actually surpassing the visual fidelity of playing games remotely on Xbox Series X|S consoles. While not every game currently supports this higher resolution, the number is expanding quickly. Plus, the ‘Stream Your Own Game’ feature, which launched a few months ago, now lets you play over 2,100 games from your Xbox library directly in the cloud.
Xbox Cloud Gaming is now available in 26 countries, including Argentina, Australia, and many others across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. You can play games on a web browser at xbox.com/play with an Xbox controller, or on devices like Samsung TVs, Windows PCs, and Amazon Fire Sticks – plus even more!
Microsoft faces growing competition from companies like NVIDIA GeForce Now and Sony PlayStation, all striving to lead the developing market for cloud gaming.

NVIDIA GeForce Now delivers top-notch streaming quality and resolution thanks to its powerful GPUs, though the user experience isn’t always consistent across different devices. Xbox Cloud Gaming is quickly improving its quality and stands out as the easiest to use, plus it offers access to a huge library of Xbox games.
PlayStation Plus is a strong contender in the cloud gaming market. Sony, thanks to its purchase of Gaikai, continues to lead the way, and recently became the first major console maker to launch a handheld specifically for cloud gaming – the PlayStation Portal. However, you currently need a PlayStation 5 console to get it set up.
All three services face limitations due to the strict rules of Apple and Google’s app stores. While Xbox does have a functional web app and benefits from Microsoft’s Azure infrastructure, which could help with expansion like we’re seeing in India, it’s still too soon to say if it will be fully successful. Xbox Cloud Gaming launched in Chile earlier this year, but isn’t officially available there yet.
We’ve contacted Microsoft to ask for more information about India’s potential participation in the xCloud gaming platform. We’ll share any updates as soon as we have them.
