John Cena’s farewell tour is coming to an end, and he made his last appearance in Boston on Monday Night Raw tonight. He shared that he specifically requested a Boston stop because it meant so much to him. When a surprise chance to compete for a championship arose, Cena eagerly accepted the challenge and achieved a major career milestone – becoming a Grand Slam Champion – in one of his final WWE matches.
The situation unfolded when Dominik Mysterio interrupted John Cena’s announcement of a tournament featuring wrestlers from both the main roster and NXT. Dominik tried to steal the spotlight with insults, but it backfired. Triple H quickly scheduled a match for Dominik’s Intercontinental Championship to happen right away, ultimately leading to Cena winning his Grand Slam Championship.
Mysterio attempted to escape from Cena, but Cena pursued him down the ramp and slammed him to the ground before forcing him back into the ring. Once inside, Mysterio gained momentum, weakening his opponent. He followed up with a DDT and attempted a pin, but Cena managed to kick out.
Man, the match was going back and forth! Cena hit his Five Knuckle Shuffle, but Rey countered his Attitude Adjustment. While the ref was checking on Cena, Rey was sneaky and pulled the turnbuckle pad off! It totally distracted the ref, and Rey ran out and grabbed a chair. He came back in, hit Cena with it, and then tried to pull off that classic Eddie Guerrero move, pretending he was hit! But Cena wasn’t fooled – he threw the chair right back at Rey, and Rey went down!
During the match, Mysterio unintentionally kicked the referee out of the ring, causing the ref to miss Mysterio tapping out to Cena’s submission hold. Mysterio then tried to attack Cena with the championship title, but Cena avoided the blow and hit his signature AA move, attempting to pin Mysterio. A new referee rushed to the ring, but Mysterio quickly kicked out before the count of three.
Mysterio tried to attack Cena with a frog splash, but Cena reversed it, lifting Mysterio and hitting him with an Attitude Adjustment. This move defeated Mysterio and earned Cena the WWE Intercontinental Championship. With this win, Cena achieved Grand Slam status, having now won every major title in WWE.
Earlier this year, John Cena made history by becoming a 17-time WWE Champion, surpassing Ric Flair’s long-standing record – a feat that will be hard to beat. He’s now added another significant accomplishment to his incredible career, and Rey Mysterio proved to be the ideal opponent. What made this even more special was a backstage encounter between Cena and Mysterio, with Rey expressing his delight that his son, Dominick, had received a lesson from a true legend.
