Nintendo announced the upcoming broadcast through the Nintendo Today! app and on their official X account. They specified that this presentation will focus solely on the new movie and won’t include any video game announcements or footage, unlike their usual Direct presentations.
What to Expect From the Presentation
You can watch the first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie on YouTube or the Nintendo Today! app. According to IGN, it’s currently unknown how long the presentation will be, or how much of it will be dedicated to the trailer itself.

The highly anticipated sequel to the 2023 blockbuster The Super Mario Bros. Movie is once again bringing together Illumination Entertainment and Nintendo.
From the Mushroom Kingdom to the Stars
This latest trailer comes after a short teaser released in September 2025. That teaser showed Mario sleeping in the Mushroom Kingdom, then panned up to a starry sky with the movie’s title.

People are excited to see how the new movie will bring the outer space world of the popular 2007 Nintendo Wii game, Super Mario Galaxy, to life. Rumors and leaks suggest that characters like Yoshi, Bowser Jr., and Rosalina might be included, and this idea gained traction when a promotion for Pillsbury cookies featuring those characters appeared online.
Some fans are hoping the movie will finally reveal a connection between Princess Peach and Rosalina’s backstories, but Nintendo hasn’t confirmed anything yet.
Confirmed Release Date and Return of the Cast
The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters on April 3, 2026. Although Nintendo hasn’t officially announced the complete list of actors, reports from industry sources and previous announcements indicate that the following cast members will be returning:
- Chris Pratt as Mario
- Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach
- Charlie Day as Luigi
- Jack Black as Bowser

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic are directing, and Matthew Fogel wrote the script. Brian Tyler is composing the music, and all three are returning from previous work on the project.
Nintendo’s Expanding Cinematic Universe
Following the huge success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie – which earned over $1.36 billion globally – Nintendo is continuing to focus on creating compelling stories for the big screen. The upcoming Galaxy sequel will probably strengthen Nintendo’s partnership with Illumination, and could lead to more movies based on popular games like Donkey Kong and The Legend of Zelda.

For now, however, all eyes are on November 12th — the day Mario officially goes interstellar.
