Marvel’s Wolverine is The Tentpole First-Party Release for Sony in 2026 – CFO

Insomniac Games previously announced that Marvel’s Wolverine is scheduled for release in Fall 2026, and now Sony has confirmed that timeframe as well. During an earnings report call (noticed by Genki_JPN), Sony’s CFO Lin Tao stated that Marvel’s Wolverine will be a key first-party game launch for 2026.

When asked about the potential impact of the delayed release of Grand Theft Auto 6 (now expected in November 2026) on Sony’s gaming business, Tao explained that Marvel’s Wolverine will now be a key game driving sales for Sony’s first-party titles, and is expected to be a positive for the company.

Tao’s comments follow Insomniac Games’ recent social media post confirming their game will be released in Fall 2026. This confirmation likely addressed concerns about release dates from other companies, as the upcoming launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to significantly impact the gaming market. The Fall 2026 window was first revealed in a trailer last September.

The trailer showed off some gameplay, revealing enemies that Marvel comic fans will recognize, like Mystique, Omega Red, and the Sentinels. The game will let players explore diverse locations around the globe, such as Japan and the Canadian Wilderness.

Recent reports suggest that Insomniac Games is not only developing Marvel’s Wolverine, but also a Marvel’s Spider-Man spin-off game called Marvel’s Venom. This new game is expected to star Eddie Brock as Venom and feature Cletus Kasady as the villain Carnage, who will likely be the main antagonist.

Haluk Mentes, who leads Marvel Games, explained why Insomniac Games was selected to create Marvel’s Wolverine. He mentioned the studio’s strong track record with Marvel, having made several popular Spider-Man games. Mentes stated that Insomniac was an ideal fit because their work style and values aligned well with Marvel Games.

After working together on several Marvel’s Spider-Man games for over ten years, we’ve built a strong, efficient way of collaborating. When it came time to bring Logan back in a big way, it was clear to everyone at our team that Insomniac was the right partner. We share similar work ethics and beliefs, and we’re excited to continue working together in the future, said Mentes.
