A Captain America costume Marvel previously decided not to use in its live-action movies has been brought back for the new Avengers Disney+ series. Before Sam Wilson returns as Captain America in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday movie, he’ll appear in the LEGO Avengers: Strange Tails animated special, sporting a version of the costume that some Marvel fans will recognize.
I was so excited to see the trailer for LEGO Avengers: Strange Tails, and I noticed something really cool! Sam Wilson’s Captain America is wearing a suit that was actually designed for the new live-action Captain America movie! It’s a design they didn’t end up using there, but it looks amazing on the LEGO version – he’s got this open-faced helmet with red goggles, and a big ‘A’ shape right on his forehead. It’s a really unique look for Cap!

A concept costume for Captain America, featured in the art book for Captain America: Brave New World, was considered for the 2025 movie but wasn’t used. The filmmakers ultimately chose the Captain America suit with the single visor that appears in the finished film, as revealed by TheArtBookGuy on YouTube.
The costume in Strange Tails appears to be inspired by an older, unreleased suit design, and it’s also a fun nod for Marvel Cinematic Universe fans who recognize it.

A new animated special, LEGO Avengers: Strange Tails, arrives on Disney+ on November 14th. This two-part adventure features the Avengers battling a social media influencer who’s obsessed with cats and determined to take over the world. The special boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Troy Baker, Roger Craig Smith, and Laura Bailey.
The Future of Sam Wilson’s MCU Costume
Fans will be thrilled to see Marvel reusing this older design for Sam Wilson’s Captain America costume in the LEGO Avengers set. However, this doesn’t suggest we’ll see the outfit in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies or shows anytime soon.
Although Anthony Mackie has only played Captain America for a short time, his costume has already gone through a few different looks in the movies.
While the Brave New World inspired suit is a fun idea for the Strange Tails Avengers vs X-Men story, any future suit upgrade for the character in the Marvel movies would probably be a much bigger change than just a new helmet.
Mackie will reprise his role as his Marvel character in the 2026 film Avengers: Doomsday, where he’ll lead the Avengers against Doctor Doom. If Marvel wants to give Sam Wilson (the Falcon/Captain America) a new costume, that movie would be the perfect opportunity.
The character’s updated appearance will probably include advanced armor – something like the suits used for time travel in Avengers: Endgame – to protect him as he journeys across different realities with Doomsday, a first for any Marvel Studios project.
We don’t know much about the next Avengers movie yet, but historically, Marvel heroes get new costumes before an Avengers film. However, it seems improbable that Marvel would bring back the suit featured in Strange Tails.
