Fans are disappointed with Bandai Namco after the release of Tales of Xillia Remastered, an updated version of the 2011 PlayStation 3 game. The issue is that it doesn’t include its sequel, Tales of Xillia 2. Many dedicated fans feel this release is incomplete and frustrating, as the two games were originally designed to be played as a continuous story.
The recently released Tales of Xillia Remastered sold approximately 17,660 physical copies in Japan during its first week (October 27th to November 2nd, 2025), with roughly 10,370 copies purchased on Nintendo Switch and 7,290 on PlayStation 5. Sales figures are somewhat low for a Tales remaster, and many fans believe the game’s release strategy contributed to this performance.
The biggest issue fans have is that Bandai Namco only released the first game in a two-part story. Xillia and Xillia 2 are directly connected, with the second game continuing immediately after the first. Releasing only one game leaves the experience feeling unfinished. What’s even more disappointing is the lack of any news about a remake or a combined package including both games, which is frustrating for players hoping to enjoy the complete story on current consoles.
Players are drawing comparisons to how previous Tales remasters performed. Tales of Symphonia Remastered sold well and was generally well-received, but Xillia Remastered doesn’t add much beyond the original game, and feels incomplete without its sequel. Many fans think Bandai Namco would have had more success if they’d released both Xillia games together, like Square Enix did with Final Fantasy X and X-2 HD Remaster.
Some believe technical difficulties might be the reason for this choice. Updating older games isn’t easy, particularly if the original files are lost or the budget is limited. However, fans aren’t satisfied with that explanation. After waiting over ten years for these games to be re-released, many feel disappointed to receive an incomplete version.
Bandai Namco needs to address fan disappointment quickly. Releasing a remastered version of Tales of Xillia 2 would be a great first step in regaining positive feelings. Offering a discount or package deal for those who already bought the first Xillia remaster would be even better. Otherwise, this release will likely be seen as a lost chance – bringing back a favorite game but leaving out a crucial part of the story.
